Infrared Security Cameras - Make An Informed Choice

By Mike Ward

Infrared light is visible as red or violet, which is translated by electromagnetic waves. Some waves are very short, and others are longer, similar to microwaves. When it comes to surveillance, there is no better way to do this than by using infrared security cameras.

Lets look at some of the main features of infrared in the hopes that the information given to you might be of assistance when sourcing your camera:

Because infrared radiation can be measured and seen with special equipment, there are now many ways to view objects either totally in the dark or at normal conditions. Most important to understanding IR cameras is the concept that they provide their own light source. This is not true. Only when the light dims below a pre-set level will the camera's built in light source turn on.

Because infrared can be incorporated with particular equipment such as a camera, it can be used in complete darkness. How this translates is as soon as the level of light drops to its predefined setting, then its emitters kick in and start beaming infrared light at the area in question.

What's really helpful here is that the more emitters your camera is able to carry, the more your area of surveillance will increase. Make sure that your camera specifications can supply you with details like range and angle of its beam.

One thing you should make sure of is, can your IR camera see everything in its range? This is true especially for night surveillance or when an area is completely in the dark. Some inexpensive cameras that use infrared illuminators light up the center of the picture but the outer edges will be much less bright or even dark. A good IR camera will have lighting to match the viewing angle of the lens.

Many regular surveillance cameras if they are capable of B/W images are transformed into infrared cameras as well, with the use of illuminators installed separately. Your camera when attached to a DVR can then detect motion in complete darkness, with the use of its infrared radiation, which is undetectable with the naked eye. Remember that while the normal day and night camera does records in low light, it is impossible to record in zero light as it does not utilize infrared technology.

There are many options in the market for you to choose from today. If your surveillance needs are that of large areas, then block cameras are the best option, with large amount of emitters that can scope huge areas. If you want a more discreet camera then there are some quite small generally referred to as bullet IR cameras. No matter what your needs are, the correct size is available.

If you are considering a CCTV system, then look into a infrared system that can work in tandem with its counterpart. This will provide you with maximum coverage especially at night.

Luckily the cameras are durable and lightweight which makes them easy to install. You can also at a later stage have additions to your system as your needs change.

Before you buy any infrared security cameras, take some time to compare units as they vary in price and quality. Sometimes it's difficult to make a selection especially if buying online but any retailer or supplier should be able to tell you the differences in the cameras so that you can make an informed decision.

By George Young

UFC Ultimate Fighter TUF is an extremely popular reality television series about mixed martial arts (MMA) competition; the show started in the U.S.A, and produced and televised by Spike TV and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) The show is currently on its tenth season . On the UFC Ultimate Fighter TUF show, professional MMA fighters that have yet to make a name for themselves are situated in a house outside of Las Vegas and compete against each other for the title of The Ultimate Fighter TUF, winning a six figure and a multi fight contract with the UFC. They spend weeks in the house with no outside contact of any sort.

In the first four seasons, the TUF contestants were selected in two weight classes. The fighters were also divided into two teams, irrespective of weight class, each team coached by a current UFC star. The teams then compete to determine which team would have the right to pair one of their own fighters against an opponent of their choice in the same weight class, the loser being eliminated from competition. At the end of a competition, the two remaining fighters of each weight class are placed in a single MMA fight, where the title of UFC Ultimate Fighter TUF is awarded to the winner. From season five to season seven, all fighters competed in the same weight class.

In the show they feature the daily preparations each fighter makes to train for the competition and the interactions they have with each other living under the same roof. White has been one of the main reasons the UFC's success to the popularity of The Ultimate Fighter.

Did you know that with the exception of the season finales, fights on The Ultimate Fighter are sanctioned by the Nevada Athletic Commission as exhibition matches and do not count for or against a fighter's professional record. This is done to keep the results from going public before the air date.

The winners of the first three seasons of The Ultimate Fighter TUF competition, and certain runners-up depending on their performance in their competition finals, receive the touted "six-figure" contract to fight in the UFC. These contracts are specifically three-year contracts with a guaranteed first year. Each year consists of three fights, the first year's purse per fight consists of $12,000 guaranteed with a $12,000 win bonus (a maximum of $24,000 per fight), the second year's purse per fight is $16,000 with a $16,000 win bonus (a maximum of $32,000 per fight) and the third year's purse per fight is at $22,000 with a $22,000 win bonus (a maximum of $44,000 per fight). A TUF winner who goes 9-0 can earn $300,000 total on the contract, but only $150,000 is guaranteed for all three years if 9 fights are fought.

Those that have not won the competition can still fight in the UFC. Their contracts however are not the same as the six-figure deal above.

An Overview Of Airsoft Guns

By Anthony Carter

Airsoft guns are replica weapons that are usually highly detailed. They are built for recreational purposes. The games they are involved in entail the opposing players attempting to shoot at each other as one would in a paintball match. Airsoft guns fire pellets, not real bullets, which can travel as fast as 260 mps.

These pellets are usually propelled by some kind of compressed gas or perhaps a spring based piston. An electric piston may also be used. The guns can be fired manually or by an electric motor or by compressed gas, which is usually propane, green gas or Co2.

People under the age of sixteen should not use airsoft guns. When they are operated carefully they are completely safe. However, some have muttered concerns about the use of these guns. The pellets they use are normally non-metallic and are traveling at a slow speed. This means that they cannot pierce the flesh. Pellets made of metal are not advertised on any Airsoft site, but they can still be purchased from specialists. It is also possible for someone to manufacture their own metal pellets.

Additionally, a plastic or rubber pellet could break the skin when fired at short distances, if a gun is upgraded to fire faster than 150 miles per second. A few sites will state that guns of this kind should not be used to play with, especially when they are upgraded in such a manner. There has also been a lot of concern over these guns being used during criminal activities.

There was a spate of holdups during the late 1990s where the perpetrators used airsoft guns. These were obviously much easier to obtain than real weapons, but could serve a similar purpose. To counter this it is now illegal to import an airsoft gun that does not have a bright orange tip on the barrel.

The origins of the airsoft gun go as far back as 1970s Japan. At this time it was illegal in Japan to own an actual firearm, so there was a demand for replicas. Some companies began to produce realistic spring loaded guns for public use. At first they fired a multitude of plastic and rubber projectiles. However, eventually they were standardized to either 6 mm or 8 mm. The spring loaded guns were eventually superceded by gas powered guns.

The pastime came to America in the 1990s. The first wave of Japanese guns on the open market would become known as "classic airsoft". A decade later the next generation of airsoft guns became available. They were designed by the Tokyo Marui company and became known as the automatic electric gun. Japan had just started to go into recession when these products were launched. Japanese manufacturers began to collapse at an alarming rate, leaving only Tokyo Marui as the main manufacturer of airsoft.

Marui then worked to improve the accuracy and range of these guns. It developed an advanced Hop up system, which forms the basis of the modern gun. At the beginning of the 2000s a new company came to challenge Marui's dominance. Classic Army of Hong Kong began to introduce more and more accurate guns to the market. Since then dozens of Chinese brands have flooded the market with more basic entry level guns.
