I am a big fan of Brian Clark. Copyblogger.com has been a mainstay on "favorite list" and rss reader for over a year. I always look forward to reading what he writes and the content he delivers. As an added bonus his guest writers also deliver quality post after post.
He has been an influence in my writing as a blogger and I highly recommend his site to anyone.
He also has a membership site called Teaching Sells for which I was a member of for about 6 months. I used the content he put in there to lay down the groundwork for my first online venture and membership site.
He even lives in Dallas and I hope to meet him and thank him personally.(If I am really lucky he may actually be reading this and wondering who I am)
The Outsourcing Conspiracy
I was on his site recently and couldn't help but notice that he had a graphic for a free report titled The Outsourcing Conspiracy. Oh boy! He had me hooked.
The bi-line said: What the 4 Hour Work Week and Internet Marketing Gurus Aren't Telling You About Outsourcing. Oh no! How dare he?
I believe that outsourcing works (it does) but was dying to find out what Brian Clark's opinion on the matter was. It was on my hard drive faster than you can imagine. I finished reading it in about an hour, and had my brain fried for days. So...
Guess What? He is Positively Right!
If you are someone new to internet marketing that outsourcing is not your best choice. He argues that outsourcing only leads to head aches and money being thrown away. Which is quite possible. Although, the model of outsourcing he writes about is the "freelancer" model in which you hire someone on a project by project basis.
He admits that at one time he did that very thing and made money doing it. The problem was that he found himself looking for talent regularly and eventually made him feel like more of a manager than a business owner.
However, the method I promote is a spin on what is written in the 4Hour Work Week. I have hired and trained someone to work for me full time.
Knowing that she will likely stick around with me gives me the confidence in knowing that I will make mistakes. It also allows me to have patience when she makes mistakes. It is just a part of life.I am able to go back to her and ask her to make some changes or simply do it all over.
If you are trying to learn this business in your spare time, can you truly hire someone full-time? Probably not. Outsourcing is obviously not for everyone.
There! I admit it!
I was at the point where I had too many ideas that needed to be implemented and I just couldn't handle it anymore. What I pay her gives me peace of mind when I am out at the park with my daughters.
Brian Clark's Big AHA!
Being the genius that Brian is I knew he had to have one. And he did.
He wraps up the report by delivering the idea of Partnering versus outsourcing. He gives examples of some of the greatest companies in the world coming our of partnerships: Google, Microsoft, IBM.
Despite the fact that he discourages what I promote. I see his point and would recommend what he is suggesting. Given his track record I know he will deliver the content to be able to help you.
On my first venture on line I had a partner and still do. I was in absolutely no position to hire someone.
In the creating of our site and product we learned a lot about all the moving pieced in an online business. Having each other helped us take small pieces of the big pie to be able to learn and implement. There is a great amount of value in being able to count on someone to help you develop your business.
So what are the options? Replace Myself or Partnering for Profits? It just depends on your circumstances. Either way you can't go wrong.
