The Recycled Pallets California Businesses Can Use To Save Money

By Rosella Campbell

One of the things that all companies who receive, store, manage and ship things need are pallets. They may be the old wooden ones or fiberglass or even polyvinyl ones, however, they all have one thing in common. They are not really the cheapest item and those companies do need a lot of them. That is one of the reasons to look into the recycled pallets California firms provide.

The wooden or fiberglass platforms lead a, sometimes, exciting life. The wood ones are created out of low end pieces of wood, hammered together in a mass production way. There are various sizes for all pallets, however, the most common sizes are 48 by 48 inches or 48 by 24 inches. They are put together so that all of them are the same size depending on the production run for that day.

Platforms such as these are used for many things. Most racking systems are built to handle the standard sizes, such as 48 by 48 inches. Half pallets, which are 48 by 24 inches, are the second most popular. All of them have slats to allow them to be as light weight as they can and still strong enough to hold many pounds of material. They also have slots on at least two sides for fork lift forks.

These are often used and or stored outside and are also used to hold chemicals and other liquids that spill unto them. This makes them unusable for other things until they are cleaned off. Many times these are used for a couple of months and then tossed out. This is when they are sold or given to a company who does the recycling.

Since there are different types of pallets as well as sizes, each one will have to be identified as to what each unit needs to make it useable again. Recycling is an action that turns usable things into something that is usable. There are a few things that must be done to each unit and one of these is to make it presentable.

When dealing with wood pallets, any slats that are broken must be removed and replaced. This is usually done with one from one of the other pallets or pieces secured from the stack they have standing by. If a stringer has a problem, this can be remedied with a splice with another piece of wood.

The composition type pallets, such as fiberglass or polyvinyl will need a slightly different process for recycling. After a brief inspection, as long as the basic structure is sound, they are cleaned with high pressure. A patch is applied to any holes and cemented in place with high heat. These types are stronger and can withstand a bit more abuse than others.

Recycling anything is a good idea. These types of tools are important enough that a lot has gone into keeping them clean and secure as well as making sure they can be put to use somewhere else. With the right recycling company doing it, they can be used over and over again.
