A Guide To What You Can Do With Stainless Machine Screws

By Jocelyn Davidson

It has now been a long time since people started using screws. In the 7th century, Archimedes discovered the screw and their amazing capability to lift water and since then, stainless machine screws have been used in so many ways. For example in the 20th century, screws were used a lot in the industries but mainly the automobile world and the construction industry. They have been used extensively in drilling operations and in basic fastenings. This has become a common use for screw.

In examining the key uses and specifically stainless fasteners, first it is important to realize where they are used in large scale application and in this case the construction and the automobile industry. In the construction industry, fasteners are used to fasten and to hold structures together. For instance, these bolts are used to hold down electrical equipment such as air conditioners and fans as well as TV screen stands and chandeliers.

The screw vary in size and shape depending on their use. The round head slot, countersunk, cheese head and the pan head slot are the most commonly used machine screw. The use of the screw is determined by its type which is further determined by the shape and size. When working on wood and a seamless fastening is desired as an end result, the countersunk head slot screw is used. Screw does not leave any bulging spaces when it goes into the wood, it leaves a seamless surface.

Likewise, fasteners come in different shapes and sizes. However, the most common machine bolts include the countersunk, pan head slot, round head slot and cheese head. In this regard, it is also worthy to note that the type of screw goes parallel with its use. In this case for example, the countersunk head slot is best used for seamless fastening of hinges as it goes all the way into the wood leaving no protruding spaces.

The rust-proof ability and the high tensile characteristic make steel the best material to be used for making screws. Using steel screw is advantageous because for wood and metal elements that are exposed to weather elements and water, they remain safe and fastened because steel does not rust.

Since stainless steel has superb strength and sound rust resistance capabilities, it makes it one of the best materials for making screws. In this case, such fasteners are used to support wall mountings for household equipment such as cupboards and picture frames. Similarly, due to its rust resistance capabilities, these machine fasteners are also common in holding down taps and bathtubs and other such objects that are usually exposed to moisture.

Screw not only fasten things but they are also used for drilling purposes. To make holes, all drilling machines use the screw. For those without bolts, their drilling heads rely on the characteristic of the screw and an example is the rotary drills. Cobalt and Titanium are at times used to make the screw but in most cases steel is used. Another advantage of steel is that it is affordable and can easily be accessed.

Apart from mainstream drilling, simple fasteners are also used to puncture small holes in walls. In this case, such screws are commonly used to make mounting holes for picture frames, wall mountings for TV sets and light bulbs among other uses. Similarly, such fasteners are also used to plug small holes prior to plastering a house or simply just hiding a gaping hole in a hose.
