Perhaps your spouse has dumped you or your family is tired of your actions. These are just a few of the reasons why you have to be sure to give up alcohol abuse.

For heavy drinkers who would go through withdrawal and detox, it is vital to ask for a physician's advice prior to quitting. For some individuals, the pain and discomfort is minimal. Lots of alcoholics have tried to give up once or twice in their lives. It can take years before one could get rid of the physical cravings. Check your credit card statements and your budget; don't just invent numbers. Try to figure out how much alcohol is costing you not only mentally, physically, relationally but financially.

This kind of honest introspection is something you would have to get used to in order to come to terms with your life and recover fully. When you are ready, it's time to commit to quitting.

The physician will evaluate the damage you've done to your body. Advice on how to quit drinking alcohol is something your doctor can give as well. There are two choices - do it alone or be medically supervised in a hospital.

Tell People (who understand)

Telling individuals you trust that you will stop drinking alcohol could also help because they would understand and help you. Most people are flattered and will be there to help and support you through the difficult times.

It is Important to Attend Meetings

12 Step Meetings is a great place to meet others who have gone through the same thing you're going through. Start by looking for 12 Step Meetings near your neighborhood. Various kinds of individuals with various kinds of problems go to different kinds of meetings. If you can't go to ninety meetings in 90 days then just try to attend as many meetings as you could. You will learn much more about quitting in these meetings than anywhere else.

If you have reached this point then that is something to be very proud of. Just continue to be strong and fight the cravings and live a life without alcohol in your body.
