When I was younger, this was an argument that always took place. Who was the better band? If you only had money for one ticket, who would you see? Who was coolest, Mick or Paul? Keith or John? Could George actually play guitar? Who had the coolest women? It used to go on and on for years, maybe even a decade. I never have settled in my mind who was best, because you could easily make a case for either one.
When you are thinking of what types of products to use for personal protection, its really the same type of argument.
Should you use a product that stuns your attacker, or one that sprays?
Which is the best choice?
It's a hard one to solve. Personally, I carry both, and then a little extra, just in case.
Here is the big difference between the two main choices.
In very close quarters, meaning the mook is right up on you, the stun gun works best, especially if physical contact has already been made. The main thing to keep in mind is that for a stun gun to be effective, you must make physical contact.
If hes further away, then I say go for the pepper spray or gel, because that will keep him from getting closer.
But you never know whats really going to happen when it all goes down, so I say you should have plans 1, 2, and 3.
If someone is fighting you, youre gonna go with what youve got. Maybe you dont think its practical to carry three tools, but it is really easy to do.
If all you have on you is pepper spray, then what are you going to do? You use that. Most of the time thatz all you need, because if your guy realizes that you are going to fight back, he usually runs. And the stun gun? Ive heard many a time about an attacker running away when he gets a look at that sucker. You may not even have to use it " the noise of the gun alone can be enough to scare him off.
The best solution? Carry both, like I do. And don't forget I have that steel baton in my back pocket. It's like having the Beatles, the Stones, and Led Zeppelin as a last resort. They're all good; it just depends on how things go down.
So if you are fitted out with all the tools you need, your choice of weapon is easy. Use whats best for whats happening right then and you wont go wrong.
