By Tommy B. Tolliver

An important part in building a house is the garage. When the time comes for the homeowner to buy a garage door for their houses, their tendency would be to look for a standard size garage door. However, what most people do not know is that garage doors differ in sizes because of different factors.

Do you know that each state has different standard size garage door? The size considered standard by one does not necessarily mean it is the same with the other state. This is what you should keep in mind when you go shopping for a garage door.

Another factor why there are different door sizes is because people from the past build different size garage and their doors are based on the size of the structure.

Not all garages are built on the same size. In the past people build their garage depending on their preference on how big or small they want it to be. The size of the garage will determine the size of the garage door. In fact, there would be instances that the garage of a house has been renovated several times by different homeowners.

Since the garage is the one responsible of taking in your vehicles, the door you need to purchase should also fit the car you own. Typically, if you have a sedan or any smaller vehicle, you do not need to have a garage door that is high in ceiling. People only buy these types of doors when they have vehicles like truck or 4 x 4.

Most states have garage doors with sizes like 9x8, 16x8, 9x7 or 16x7ft. This is commonly used by houses built for the new generation.

Some owners would like their garage customized based on their own preference and needs. You can expect that the door size would be different compared to the regular ones.

Therefore, it is very important before getting a garage door for your home that you check with dealers on what sizes are available and what you need. This is the only way you can get the perfect garage door you will need
