Cedar Park Recycling Eliminates Waste

By Linda Ruiz

A person does not have to be obsessed with the environment in order to be interested in recyclables. For those living in Cedar Park recycling has become a habit formed in order to make their community a better place. You do not have to be a "tree hugger" to change your little corner of the world for the better.

The reasoning's behind the decision to recycle are many. One reason may be the concern of overflowing landfills. Many coastal cities choose to dump their waste into the ocean. This act can be quite dangerous and harmful to animals living in the sea. Over half of the trash in the landfills is recyclable. Less land could be used as landfills if people would only recycle their trash.

Not only can this cut down on waste, doing so can increase the property values of a whole community. Who do you know that wants to live near a landfill full of pungent waste? Communities that take the time to recycle in turn need less space for landfills, which creates a more attractive place to call home. Creating this type of community will make it a poplar place to live, thus increasing the desirability of the whole community.

Believe it not, the act of recycling can create a whole new flow of money into a city. Factories that produce packaging products can save money and energy by using recycled materials rather than having to create a brand new product from raw materials. Add this to the fact that everyday people can sell plastics and scrap metals to facilities that collect and resell them to manufacturers and you will see why recycling is a good thing for everyone involved.

Once you see the positives that come from recycling, you may ask yourself why everyone is not participating. Most people say that they do not do it because it is too much trouble for them. If someone lives in the country, they likely will be required to load their recyclables into their car and take to a nearby facility. This requires extra time and effort that most people are not interested in.

The lack of recycling from people can cause many environmental problems. However, people tend to not believe there is a problem because the media tends to put the emphasis on the problems. Leaving the public to see the problems still exist, despite their efforts, so they get discouraged and quite trying to go out of their way to help the issues.

The beginner might find recycling to be a confusing task at first. Knowing what should be recycled and what can be thrown out can be daunting. Having a bin for paper, glass, plastic and aluminum can be helpful. Having them easily accessible, like by you trash can, will make it easier to do.

You need to remember that to recycle is not always about how you throw something away. If you are able to find a new purpose for an item, you are in essence being able to recycle creatively. For instance, decorating a tin can with contact paper can create a lovely pen holder for your desk. You are then using the trash and keeping it out of the landfill.
