What You Should Know About Crime

By Lessie Kaufman

The world today has seen so many innovative stuff that can do so many things. The new era has seen the birth of so many things that make activities of daily living go a lot easier and faster. These stuff can do so many good thing in the right hands, but in the wrong ones they can very well be the stuff of nightmares.

Armed with modernization, people of the present society can no longer be contained by rules and regulations. They are no longer afraid of authority figures as much as the previous generations have been. They even commit Howard Beach crime in cold blood, unmindful of all the grave consequences when they get caught.

Crime often denotes an unlawful act that is punishable under the rules of a certain state. There are so many definitions as to what really constitute a crime, and until now, it does not have any simple definition that is universally accepted. Mostly, many states refer to it as an offense that is not only harmful to an individual, but also to the community.

Crimes only occur when one decides to break laws. One can commit crime by doing the act himself. However, when you choose not to act when an actual offense is going on and turn a blind eye to everything, you are also guilty of the crime of omission. These acts can be classified into different classifications or groups as well.

Crimes against persons, or personal crimes, are acts that are done to somebody and affected mental, physical, and emotional well being of the victim in the said process. These includes murder, aggravated assault, rape, and robbery. Such cases are unevenly distributed all over the country and all over the globe. It does not happen to a certain group, but experts say that these are often committed by young, poor, urban, and racial minority groups as compared to other groups.

Crimes against property are another. These can be done without inflicting any body injury whatsoever. These are often committed due to poverty, and propelled by an intense desire to own things that one thinks he will never be able to achieve through legal means. These offenses take the form of burglary, larceny, arson, auto theft, and the like.

Morality crimes are an altogether different form. For starters, they do not have any known complainants or victims that could file a lawsuit, which makes solving them all the more harder. These victimless offenses are fast becoming rampant in every society. They could manifest in the form of illegal gambling, drug and substance abuse, human trafficking, and prostitution.

There are also things that are done without any violence yet the end results are still disastrous. These are what are called white collar offenses. They are called so because they are done by people in the high society, in line with their work. Common examples are tax violations, insider trading, and embezzlement, among others.

Organized types are done by a structured group of people. These typically involve illegal distribution of goods and services. These people do not only include the Mafia, but also large groups that run large illegal enterprises.
