People love having an interesting experience, when visiting anywhere. New Orleans airboat tours are considered to be one of the most exciting adventures one can take. The tour will go through the swamps and backwater bayous with plenty of gator, snakes, egrets and raccoon sightings. One will be able to learn about the plants that are used for healing by the locals and see many beautiful exotic birds as well.
The plantation tour is also of interest and they start off at the Laura Plantation. It is over 200 year's old and produced sugar cane. Four women ran this plantation together and the tour is based on their stories. This was formerly known as the Duparc Plantation and has a big house with several outbuildings. There are also six slave quarters and is one of fifteen plantations left that still have some structures standing.
The house was completed in 1805 and is located on high ground close to the river. It was built in a U shape with two back wings that surrounded a courtyard. It had a detached kitchen in the back as well. The fields were over 12.000 acres with a sugar mill about 1.6 kilometers behind the main house. A dirt road that was about 6km long had rows of houses where the workers used to live.
This area is rich in history and is definitely a place for those interested in the past to visit.
