Local Janitorial Distributors Will Keep You On Track

By Leslie Ball

Running a cleaning company or an internal cleaning department requires things with which to do the work. This includes all of the tools, the equipment, supplies and chemicals designed to make your job easier. All of these vital items, including the information necessary to implement them, are easily acquired from one of the local janitorial distributors.

Tools, such as brushes, putty knives, brooms, mops and buckets, not to mention dust pans, are needed. All of these instruments will be displayed in these local store fronts for comparison. Finding the right size, shape, weight and in the appropriate materials is critical for ease of use in varying situations.

All of your equipment needs can be satisfied here as well. Vacuums, carpet cleaning machines and pressure washers can be inspected and compared for functionality. Personnel, employed here, can help you know about each machine and the differences, if any. There will also be, in most cases, a place designated for you to try them out before you decide to buy. This is helpful as these informal classes will help you know things you did not know before.

Supplies are all of those things that are used to get into the hidden places for dust and dirt. Cloths, dusters and mops, regardless of material used are vital. All of these are on display for touching and using so that each item can be selected for their functionality in hands on operation. Terry cloth is an old line, material and micro fiber cloth is the newer replacement, but sometimes the old line stuff is better.

Chemicals perform a function that is hard to duplicate in any other way. Working smarter, not harder means letting the chemicals, even if it is just fresh water, do their job first. Finding the correct formulation for each task can be as simple as talking with the professionals who use them every day. Old line and newer, environmentally friendly products are there for you to compare.

A very vital task that these informed personnel provide to you are the Material Safety Data Sheets, or MSDs that are required by federal and local regulations. These sheets list some of the ingredients and special precautions necessary for the proper use of the chemical it is prepared for. Having these are necessary for the safe handling of each chemical and your cleaning staff is better prepared when armed with them.

Customers, often owners and, many times, front line cleaners, just standing around will also provide you with real life experiences that can assist you in understanding some of the things that are happening to your cleaners and their tasks. Just talking with some of them will help you know how to deal with things you have just encountered. Some of them are old hands at this and have seen it all.

Many of these supply stores only handle a few brands or lines of products. They know these very well and all of that knowledge can be transferred to other similar products. Small tools are very similar in nature, large equipment are extremely similar and chemicals are largely, with a few exceptions, made from the same stuff. It is the knowledge and experience gleaned from others that help you and your employees get better.
