6 Questions To Ask When Hiring A Personal Development Coach

By James Gibson

It is normal for world class coaches to produce stars and total failures at the same time. The problem lies in preliminary issues that are not addressed before the commencement of coaching. Before you hire a personal development coach, certain important questions must be answered if you are to get the results you desire.

What results are you looking for by the time the coaching sessions come to an end? This calls for setting of goals at short, medium and long term basis. Achievements will also depend on the weaknesses that you want to be addressed. Such understanding directs you to identify the best trainer who will enable you achieve these goals. When there are no targets, there will be no goals to be achieved.

What are you missing in life? This is a deceptive question but very important. The fact that you are able to meet your daily needs will give you a false sense of achievement. However, in the long run, you realize that certain medium or long term goals were never met. Through training, you have a chance to pause and evaluate your current position with the aim of designing a concrete strategy for a better future.

What aspect of my life needs to change? This means enhancing actions and stopping others. It has been revealed that the life of a person would change if he or she began doing or stopped doing just one thing. These are the hindrances that stop you from achieving your goals. Identify that and use the assistance of the trainer to rectify some of the trends.

How do you confirm that you have become the person you intended? This is connected to your goals in life. It must be noted that coaches do not transform people. They only guide them and it is the person to become. You need to set beacons that inform you that you are on the intended path to success or your coaching is not bearing desired fruits. This also helps you to know whether to continue with coaching or change strategy.

What is the track record of the trainer? An early caution is that coaches are not necessarily the most successful persons. In fact, it has been noted in sports that successful players rarely make excellent coaches. However, a trainer is only as good as his strategies and track record. Check the performance of people under his umbrella. You will be as good as they are.

What are your plans for celebrations? This might appear like being overconfident about what you can achieve. However, psychologists insist that celebration gives you the drive you require to take on the next huge challenge. There is greater motivation once you recognize your current win.

Coaches will guide you in personal development but you have to do most of the work. You will need to implement the ideas shared with your coach. Take personal initiative in order to achieve more. Set realistic goals and work towards attaining them. You must also set aside resources to implement the strategies suggested.
