If I am asleep will fire alarms UK wake me?

By Matthew Kerridge

Many people each year die, both old and young as they are not alerted in enough time of a fire to be ale to get out of the building. Having fire alarms UK provides you with enough warning to know that there is an emergency and that you need to get yourself, your family or your work colleagues to safety. Even if the place you wish to have the alarms installed is noisy you will still be able to hear it over the noise of any machinery or children playing.

There are many factors that will affect the kind of fire alarm that you choose so that you can ensure it is heard by everyone who is in the building should a fire or other emergency occur. One of the main things you should think about is the size as well as the shape of the building, and make sure that all floors are covered. You will also need to make sure that a call point is accessible to everyone who is in the building.

The call points are something you may have seen before in other buildings, they are the red signs with the breakable glass and they are usually well signposted. In the event of a fire these are easily broken so that everyone can be alerted.

There are different decibels available when it comes to the alarms as well as different kinds of alarm sounds, for those who have many workers who are hard of hearing there are also alternatives so that even if they cannot hear at all they will still realize there is a problem even if no one in the room has any hearing at all. This means that everyone can be kept safe. Think about the amount of noise that is generated within the building and on its noisiest days, you will then be able to work out what alarms are needed for your establishment.

The decibels that an alarm should be at minimum in a place where someone may be asleep is between 65 and 75 decibels, this will ensure that even the deepest of sleepers can be alerted and have enough time to make a safe escape before the fire gets out of hand.

Just think how many lives will be saved by having the fire alarms fitted. It could also mean that you have to make a lower claim on the insurance should any damage occur and that the services can be alerted before any flammable materials or items are reached, and of course any solutions or apparatus that could cause an explosion. It will eliminate the amount of people who may not be able to escape in time and become trapped when the fire gets too much.

If you think that the fire is small enough to be dealt with on your own you should still make sure that you press the alarm, so that someone will call the fire services. Fire can spread quicker than you may think and something that seems only minor could soon become uncontrollable and trap not only yourself but others in the building. By sounding the alarm you will be able to alert others to help you or evacuate the building so that it is known if anyone else is still inside.
