Help For Houston Garage Door Repair

By Leon Tolstoy

If you have a sectional garage door, chances are that one day you will walk out, push the button to open the door and wait while nothing happens. You can look around and there do not seem to be loose parts lying around on the floor but it is not working. Before you call for Houston Garage door repair service company, here are a few steps that might save you a service call.

First look to be sure that the door is clear. A tool that has fallen onto the door or its operating mechanism could prevent the door from operating correctly. Boxes or other materials could be stacked so as to prevent the safety sensor from operating correctly shutting off the door opener. Hanging tools can get caught in the door preventing it from opening or closing. Move the tools or whatever is interfering and the door will work normally again.

Take the time to check the circuit breakers. A power overload situation could have a circuit in the reset position. Follow the directions in your circuit breaker box to reset the breaker. Be sure that you also check for any reset buttons on the garage door opener. The button is usually red. Press the button to see if the door will open normally.

If your problem still is not solved, then be sure that all the bolts on the garage door have been tightened. After years of use, they can vibrate loose. Loose bolts may cause the door to jam and not open or close. Manually close the door and replace any missing bolts or screws. Make sure that each hinge is tight.

Make sure that the door tracks are still secure against the door. They should be bolted into place at both the ceiling and wall.

Use garage door lube to lubricate the pulleys. If you do not have the lube, then use household oil on the pulleys only.

Be sure that you check each of the rollers. The metal shaft should move in the hinges freely. The lower rollers are subject to moisture and grime, so they are more likely to rust. They should also be lubricated with garage door lubricant or graphite powder. Open and close the door manually to check for binding rollers. Replace any rollers that are not freed by lubricating.

If none of these possible solutions repairs your garage door, it is time to call for help. Do not try to adjust or replace the garage door springs yourself, as this is a dangerous job that should be reserved for the pro. The repair company can tell you if the spring just needs to be tightened or if it should be replaced.

When your garage door does not work correctly, you can be left out in the cold. Houston garage door repair companies will be glad to give you the assistance you need to get that door opening and closing again.
