How To Be A Great Roommate

By Bryan Bailey

It can be difficult to live with others due to the fact that we are all different. Some things you may like to do, your roommates may not. You may be complete opposites in all you do. But there are ways to make your living situations a little more bearable by understanding each other.

One of the biggest issues is personal space. Another is personal property. The best way to handle these issues is to respect them. Respect will make everything else fall into place.

The thing is you must treat your roommate the way you would want or expect them to treat you. The guests should be treated as if they are welcome into your home. Act in a manner that makes your roommate feel comfortable and at home.

It's always best to communicate so that there aren't any gray areas. All questions, concerns, like, dislikes and such should be discussed when the living arrangements are set. It's okay to set rules to live by in your home so that everyone will be heard.

When you hear the word rules or guidelines, it may sound like a parent or adult and child living situation but it's actually the best way to have a good living arrangement. People aren't perfect so a rule or two may be broken. Just discuss it and move on.

Find ways to do acts of kindness around your home. When others see you doing things like cooking for everyone, cleaning after yourself and sometimes each other, they will probably follow suit. The little things count in building good relationships and friendships.

Now everything won't always be perfect and every roommate situation doesn't end in a friendship and that's okay. It may be a better arrangement if you all have separate friends and things going on in your lives.

Following a few tips and steps can bring a great result to your roommate dilemmas. Although it could be difficult, you both can make it a little more pleasant by following the above.
