Long-Term Couples Should Still Date Occasionally

By Jeremy Hudson

Don't get too comfortable in your relationship. It's possible, even likely, that once you've been with your partner for a very long time, everything will become blase, with negative consequences.

To ditch this unfortunate level of comfort, it's time to put together a little bit of couples time. It most likely affects the divorce rate, so beware and take care. At some point in a marriage we all get to it.

Dating is so important for keeping a relationship fresh. A marriage starts in the highest note possible, with the ceremony and the honeymoon, it is impossible to top that. Naturally, the only way to go is down.

It's about intimacy between you and your significant other. Many marriages come to the brink of divorce just because one side has ceased appreciating the other.

Dating is the best way to throw off erroneous assumptions your partner might have. One of the easiest ways to communicate in marriage is to ask. After being with someone for awhile it seems easy to assume they will know everything about you. But that's not true. You have to be able to put the fun back in.

You should force yourself and your partner to commit to these dates. Participate in activities that use non-verbal communication.

Take the opportunity now to do things a little differently than you did when you were first dating. Keeping intimacy in your marriage is one of the key tools.

If kids are a problem, make this fun for them too. If you want to have a deep conversation, you should avoid talking to them when they seem irritated or upset. Wait for an appropriate time to talk to your spouse. Kindness is one of the best tools to use when you are talking and listening to your spouse.
