What Is Your Opinion About Fire Extinguisher Safety?

By Peter Thomas

Did you get to adulthood and realise that you know nothing about how to use a fire extinguisher? That is the case with so many people, especially those in the older generation. The older generation did not have the exposure to the use of fire extinguishers that there is today, nor were they exposed to the method of using a fire extinguisher.

If you have older parents, or you yourself are in the 60+ bracket, it would be a good idea for you to make yourself familiar with the use of a fire extinguisher.

Why? Well, as you get older it is harder to learn about new things, but also as you get older you get more careless and more forgetful. Not only that, you move more slowly, so if you had to get out of a fire you are not as nimble as you used to be.

A LITTLE SLOW WITH THE MEMORY

with a forgetful memory you may not remember to go back to the stove to attend to something cooking with fat

you may leave a cigarette burning

a heater too close to an open window and curtain, or

leave the heater on all night unattended

not work the clothes dryer properly and have a fire

You could be a really busy person and go rushing out the door forgetting something. There are many reasons why a poor memory could cause a fire.

NOT SO AGILE

as you get older you are slower getting out of a chair

you nod off at irregular times

you trip over more easily

you dont hear quite the same as you used to

any one of these getting older experiences might stop you from containing a fire as fast as you might have in the past.

None of these reasons may put your life in danger, but there is one thing for sure and that is if you have a fire extinguisher in your home, and you know how to use it, you have a much better chance of containing any sort of flair up.

You have worked all your life to reach your latter years and it is a time to enjoy it. The last thing you need is to have a life threatening disaster like a fire, just because you did not have a fire extinguisher on hand.

If you are reading this article, and have a parent in the latter years, and they do not have a fire extinguisher, do them and yourself a favour, buy them one and teach them how to use it. Put it near the exit door and put an Instructions sign right beside it. It really can give you peace of mind that you did your best to protect them.

Home Security Burglar Alarms Safety Features

By Jeffrey Parker

One of the biggest advantages of having a home security system is the peace of mind it gives us regarding our house and our possessions. Still, just like anything else we buy, when looking to purchase a home security burglar alarm system, we need to be sure our money is well spent and we are getting the options we need and expect.

A burglar alarm system is not the same thing as a complete home security system, though it may constitute a part of one. As you customize, you may want to ensure that you add other elements as well. It is a good idea to protect yourself, your loved ones, your possessions, and your dwelling from fire and other major threats as well. One vital thing to consider is a carbon monoxide detector, and you might also want to be alerted if there is a sudden plunge in temperature, so you can keep your water pipes from freezing.

The majority of home security alarms have an activation system in the home which can be used to turn the alarm system on or off. Some newer alarm system companies offer a convenience feature, a keychain that can be used to turn the homeowner's alarm system on or off. This helps to provide access to the alarm from outside the home. Another great feature is a backup battery installed in the home's alarm keypad to ensure the system will continue to function even if electrical power is lost.

Doors and windows that are specially designed with home security in mind have special locks and sensors to improve security. For added security, you have the option of adding motion detectors to your setup. These are placed in different areas of the house and will trigger when any movement is detected. You can even increase the security of your driveway if that is an area that worries you.

Happily for those of us who have pets, the motion detectors can be set to ignore our animals. Some people also enjoy talking controls, which can utilize voice prompts. Yard signs and window decals may seem like a minor feature, but they have been proven to deter criminal acts. Home wireless security alarm systems help to keep one's home organized and free of additional clutter. And a layered security system will force thieves to spend valuable time after detection but before penetrating the barrier security and will enhance your safety.

Go over your whole property to determine where the vulnerabilities are and what assets are most in need of protection. Evaluate all aspects of the property to come up with a plan for the most effective home security burglar alarm system you can afford that will protect the assets you value most.

Inside TNA Wrestling - Part 2

By Brett Fitzpatrick

The X Division has also seen the introduction of a new type of match for the X Division championship; the Ultimate X match is a high-flying variation on something like a Ladder match, except with the X Division championship being suspended on two intersecting wires above the ring, forming an X.

Another aspect which separates TNA from the WWE is the amount of shoot angles that TNA runs. By catering to a more niche and complex audience, TNA has allowed itself to blur the line between the sports entertainment world and the scripted formulaic one. Shoot angles use actual MMA or Wrestling and the results are, usually, not scripted.

TNA openly recognizes the booking team and the hierarchy in both the TNA and WWE through subverting the audience's knowledge of Kayfabe (the scripted events that occur during professional wrestling, the suspension of disbelief that is used and required for all scripted drama.)

With the TNA focusing more on actual wrestling rather than out of ring angles, the TNA wrestlers generally have a better wrestling ability. With this, TNA is well recognized as having a good variety of established wrestling veterans paired up with female wrestlers, tag teams and exciting cruiserweights.

TNA has mixed former WWE and WCW wrestlers with their own talent and their current roster includes Kurt Angle, Booker T, Christian, The Dudley Boys, Scott Steiner, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Abyss, Matt Morgan and Sting.

TNA DVDs have made TNA even more accessible outside of the United States, bringing the TNA brand of wrestling to countries that dont air TNA Impact (Such as New Zealand), and opening up more avenues for TNA to expand into.

Selecting a Home Security Device - Some Info on Wired Devices

By David Lanka

Statistics show that those houses that carry a home security system have 60% less chance of being vandalized than those who don't have any security system installed. Therefore, the first step in home security would be to ensure you have a security system installed.

Finding the right security equipment for your home

In the world we live in today the range of different home security systems available is considerable so one must spend some time to properly evaluate each system. The following is a series of tips and points I hope will help you with your decision.

First you must take into account your location, what's the crime rate where you live? How accessible is your home to a burglar? Are there plenty of people around?

Then consider just how important it is to you to have your home protected. For instants, are there old people in your home who can't protect themselves? Have you got young children left alone in the home or is the home simply left unoccupied for long periods of time?

After going through these questions one by one, it should be a whole lot easier for you to make an educated decision when comparing all the different devices.

The more classical wired security systems

These older systems still carry some popularity today; however one must remember that the installation of the wired home security devices is somewhat more time-consuming and technical.

Unless you are a competent electrician or at least have the necessary knowledge to deal with home security wiring, your best route will be more than likely to hire the services of a professional.

Where there are wires connecting up devices there comes the risk of sabotage, one must ensure that all of the home security systems wiring be hidden away and not on show anywhere in and outside the house.

Yet another important factor in home security system wiring is the proper insulations of the cables in order to protect them from humidity and adverse weather, which in turn will ensure a proper running security system all year round.

It really isn't all that difficult to find yourself in a bit of a mess with a wired home security system installation. So seriously consider professional help if you are not used to wiring jobs.

This Is How An Executive Coach Can Help You

By Bart Icles

There are many benefits that come from being promoted inside an organization. You get a higher salary, more respect, and better job description. Many times, promotion brings you a more relaxed working environment. When you are in a lower level job, you get a lot of feedback on your performance. This leads to better productivity and overall efficiency in the work place.

One of the draw backs of being promoted is you lose the opportunity to get other peoples suggestions on how you can improve. Overall, the higher you climb the ladder in the organization, the less chance you have of getting feedback about your performance. Companies need to find ways to evaluate and help their top executives develop.

In today's modern business world, executives have a very unstructured and uncertain work pattern. Because of this, it can be challenging to have a focused and productive schedule. Many organizations have come to the conclusion that executives at all levels can benefit from coaching discussions with those in a position to observe the results of their actions. It is also good to get feedback from the people that get to see your everyday work patters and overall behavior. It is very important for people to hear how they are performing. If they are doing well, it gives them encouragement to hear about it. If they are doing poor, it is very beneficial to get feedback.

This is the same for people in management positions as well as lower level employees. Many times, people are intimidated to give constructive criticism to executives. Obviously, it needs to be done in a respectful manner, but usually the executive will be appreciative for the comments.

When executives fail at their job, they usually encounter one of the big four problems. These issues have derailed top management all over the globe and will continue to be a problem to all major firms. These problems are: failure to meet business objectives, inability to change or adopt during transition, problems with interpersonal relationships, and failure to build and lead a team.

These four themes cry for personal attention of an experienced business coach. When a company hires a business coach, he has the opportunity to step back and look at things from a different angle. Executive coaching is a new trend in the business world. One-on-one attention can assist in obtaining feedback from direct reports, developing teamwork, and collaboration of skills.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea Boosts Chance of Cardiac Death

By Pam McKee

Research from the Mayo Clinic shows that obstructive sleep apnea increases your risk of sudden death by heart attack. Luckily there are easy ways to avoid death and get good sleep.

By studying nearly 11,000 adults, researchers discovered that sleep apnea was one of the two biggest risk factors for sudden death among patients with heart disease. (The second trait was an age of 60 years or older.)

If left untreated, obstructive sleep apnea will cause nighttime low oxygen saturation in the blood. The result? The heart has to work harder to oxygenate the brain and body.

Research points to the fact that low oxygen (caused by apnea), can alter your blood vessels in a way that promotes heart disease. Similarly, apnea is also associated with high blood pressure, stroke and even Alzheimers.

There is a common thread. If you dont get oxygen to the blood, the whole body and brain start to shut down. But with apnea, your throat closes down, suffocating yourself and starving your body of oxygen.

So, what is the most effective form of sleep apnea treatment? Doctors almost always prescribe CPAP (continuous positive air pressure) therapy. CPAP therapy is proven to maintain sufficient oxygen levels in the brain and body and is associated with other benefits, including improved sleep, reduced daytime drowsiness, improved mood, and weight loss.

But reaping the health benefits of CPAP requires that you use your CPAP therapy on a nightly basis. Unfortunately, wearing a CPAP mask connected to a tiny air compressor (aka a CPAP machine) is not easy for most people. On average, only 50% of patients comply with their CPAP therapy.

Here are three strategies outlined by the National Apnea Association (NAA) to increase your chance of CPAP success:

1. Only use quality CPAP equipment. Doctors only recommend three manufacturers: ResMed, Fisher & Paykel, and Respironics. These brands invest millions in R&D every year. It is very risky (perhaps deadly) to buy one of the junk brands that many questionable websites push. Before you waste your money or risk your life, ask your doctor about any brand other than the above three. Remember, this not about buying a bargain toaster or microwave oven at BestBuy. Your health and even your very life are at stake.

2. Choose wisely when selecting a CPAP supplier. Avoid the dubious websites that sell grey-market CPAP equipment. You might end-up with a refurbished CPAP machine that just looks like new, but doesnt have warranty coverage or isnt even sterilized. (Many used machines on the grey market are from patients in nursing homes who have passed away, possibly from pneumonia or other respiratory diseases.) Be safe and smart: use a CPAP supplier that is certified by the National Apnea Association and/or is a ResMed Preferred Internet Provider.

3. Get a CPAP coach to make CPAP easier. The research shows that patients who get additional help with their CPAP have anywhere from 88-93% chance of success. This is almost twice the national average of 50%. Using, cleaning, and maintaining your CPAP is much easier with an expert who can coach you along the way. Look for a quality CPAP supplier who also provides CPAP coaching - preferably for free.

Reasons To Own a Standby Emergency Generator

By Trevor Rice

It is scary to realize just how much we need electricity. If you will, consider that the furnace fridge, freezer, air conditioner, coffee maker, the pump in a rural water well, and all of your lights require power to work. What will happen if for some reason there was a power outage that lasted for days? Would you be able to survive comfortably, or would it be a very trying experience?

It is easy to see how a really bad storm can cause problems with electrical infrastructure. This can leave residences without power for hours or longer.

Another problem that could occur is that construction equipment could accidentally come in contact with an overhead or buried line. As well, the utility company could have problems and malfunctions with equipment. Any one of these situations could result in a residence being without power for an extended period of time.

In times like these, you would be very glad if you had purchased a standby emergency generator. While your neighbours looked on with envy from their darkened and chilly homes, you could microwave some popcorn and see if the power outage is mentioned on television.

Of the two types of standby emergency generators out there, the most common by far is the portable generator. If all you will require is enough electricity to power just a few items such as the fridge and microwave, then one of these might work for you. The biggest benefit to these is that they don't require an electrician, since you simply plug your appliances directly into the generator with an extension cord.

If you want to completely power our home with a standby emergency generator, then you will require one that is permanently installed. Units of this size must be wired into the house power box by a certified electrician and must meet local building codes. These generators commonly utilize fuels like diesel or natural gas and can run for days or even weeks if necessary.

The large investment required for an emergency standby generator means that not everyone will want to own one. However, in the event f a massive power outage that lasts days or weeks, those who did plan ahead and get one will be very glad of their decision.
