When Choosing Your Home Security System Keep These 5 Things in Mind

By Thomas Erikson

In the world we live in, it is important to keep your home secure and safe. Of course, one of the best ways that you can accomplish this is to go with a good home security system. Even though many homeowners know how important it is to have a good system, they often don't have the knowledge needed to pick out the right system.

If you are wondering which home security system is right for you, you may find all the choices very confusing. Although you have many options out there, here are some important things you need to keep in mind as you make your final decision on the right security system for your home.

You may think that a big company has to come to your home and put in a security system for your home. At one point in time, this was sometimes true. However, today you are able to purchase and install your own system without too much trouble. Most of the systems available can be installed and used easily, and when you do it yourself, you'll save.

Think about whether you need a wireless security system or a wired system. This is one of the things you'll have to decide as you are looking for the right security system for your needs. Consider both the cost of the system and the ease of installation. Sometimes the cheaper option is the system that is wired, and the wireless option is going to cost you a bit more. Of course, it is easier to put in the wireless system and a lot harder to put in a system that has to be wired up.

Consider reliability as you try to figure out whether you should go with a wired or wireless home security system. Years ago the wired systems were more reliable than the wireless systems. This is not the case today. Now wireless systems are just as reliable as the wired options.

You should also consider how much protection you really need at your home when choosing your home security system. Sure, it may be pretty cool to have many sensors in each room, but it's not a practical option. Figure out which areas of your home are vulnerable and the rooms where someone may decide to enter. This can help you to make your decision.

It's a good idea to choose a company to offer you the equipment that you need as well. In order to choose a company for your home security system, you'll want to ensure that they offer a great product. They should also offer competitive prices, free tech support, and they should have a great reputation as well.

Having a great home security system is important for your safety and security at home. With these important tips, you ca more easy choose a good system for your home that will protect your home as well as your whole family.

Home Safety Tips

By Pierre Levingston

The safety of your home and family is very important. You can protect your home, family, and possessions with some easy, basic home improvements. Here are some suggestions of how to improve your home's safety.

Install new locks and bolts to your doors and windows of your house. Many older locks can be weak and need to be replaced. Be certain that all windows have locks on them and all doors leading to an outside entrance have dead bolts.

Trim all hedges that may get in the way of you seeing the area around your home properly. None of your windows or doors should have anything in front of them to block your line of sight. Make certain that all entrances and exits can be seen clearly.

Install motion or heat-sensing flood lights in your front or back yards. This will get rid of shadows where burglars can hide. You can also choose to put lights on timers so that they switch on and off at regular times.

If you are away from home for a while remember to have your home look as if its still being occupied. Ask a trusted neighbor or friend to collect your mail and newspapers while you are gone. Park your car in the driveway to give your place a lived in appearance, or ask your neighbor to park their car there while you are away.

Install a self-charging smoke detector. These alarms recharge themselves every time a light is turned on, so you won't have to worry about replacing a dead battery. Keep a fire extinguisher handy, and make certain that everyone in the home knows where it is and how to use it.

Join your neighborhood watch, or start one yourself. It is 100% free. Sometimes a neighborhood watch sign can be enough to convince a prowler to find another area.

There are a lot of other precautions you can do to protect your home. Some other good ideas include installing a professional security system in your home and replacing flimsy outside doors with more sturdy ones. And don't forget to update your homeowners insurance, just in case something unexpected happens.

What are panic rooms

By Pierre Levingston

Normally when you hear the words "Panic Room" a movie starring Jodie Foster comes to mind. But what is a panic room in actuality? Why do people get them and what function do they serve?

Panic rooms aren't built for the general public. A lot of panic room manufacturers do not give out a lot of detailed information about the panic rooms because their buyers are paying a lot of money for their privacy. Panic rooms are, however, meant to suit different people with their various needs.

Panic rooms often serve more than one purpose. Many panic rooms are made in response to risks that individuals may face with kidnapping or terrorist attacks. It serves as an added protection against these attacks, and give high profiled individuals another level of security.

Panic rooms have a wide range of safety features. Panic room walls can be reinforced with hefty material to thwart off invaders who try to enter it. They are often designed to hide their occupants, so bookcase entries and hidden pocket doors are popular examples of where safe rooms can be placed.

Panic rooms are often fitted with high tech equipment. Their surveillance equipment can be connected to cameras around the home to provide the occupants inside an opportunity to see what is happening outside the panic room. Many panic rooms are linked with alarm systems once the room is opened that will alert the police or other security agents of any trouble.

Most of the safe rooms are not meant to be used by their occupants for an extended period of time. Other than in hostage circumstances, panic rooms are usually used no more than a few hours. Unless a prolonged attack is foreseen safe rooms are mostly designed with short stays in mind.

Lately, however, panic rooms are being used for other things besides home invader protection. A lot of people use panic rooms as a safeguard for their valuables. Panic rooms are great places to store rare books, precious artwork, and other valuable collections.

They are also becoming more and more popular because of the current weather related catastrophes that have been happening. A lot of safe rooms are being made with weather-resistant materials to protect occupants against tornado and hurricane winds that might attack their home. Many panic rooms have strong foundations to the home and are reinforced with steel and concrete for added protection.

Need Some Tips On Garage Door Repair?

By John Dilantros

Garage door repair is not as hard as people may think. It is possible to perform this repair on your own, even if you are not good at mechanical things. This first thing to do is figure out what the problem is.

Does your garage door have difficulty closing or opening, does it get stuck when opening or closing, or does it drop after releasing the button? Sometimes if the garage fails to open or close, the fix is quite simple. A quick check of the keypad should reveal whether or not the garage door opener is working properly. If this is case, all that is required is to reprogram the opener.

Check your hinges and metal rollers if your garage door is sticking open or shut, you may just have to lubricate them. You may have to clean your tracks if they are dirty or clogged, this can be done with any normal household cleaning solution, just be sure to lubricate the tracks afterward.

The last problem that it may be is if your door falls after it has been released. This might be because your extension springs are worn, in that case just switch out your old springs for new ones.

Reprogramming the opener, cleaning and oiling the hinges and rollers, and replacing worn springs, are among the most common fixes to everyday garage problems. Worn tracks and springs could very likely be the main cause of your garage door malfunction. In order for your garage door to open and close properly, the tracks must be fully functioning. Sturdy metal brackets are used to keep the tracks in place. If your door ceases to function, a simple inspection of the brackets to determine whether or not they are loose may be just the fix. Carefully tightening the bolts or screws is all you need to do if the brackets are loose. If you've checked the brackets and they're secure, inspect the tracks to see if they are bent, dented, or misshapen somehow.

If the tracks happen to be the source of your problem, try reshaping them with a mallet. If reshaping the tracks is ineffective, your best bet is to purchase replacement tracks. If the problem happens to lie in the springs, some simple adjustments may be all that are required. However, if your garage door functions with a torsion spring, the repair may be quite complicated and your are better off hiring a professional in order to avoid serious injury from an incorrect repair.

You should not ignore the problem if your garage is broken. Please keep this guide in mind if you have an issue with your garage door.

Learn To Overcome Your Fear Of Fighting

By Vincent Grammar

There are particular sensations in all forms of street combat, but you can advance above the "nervous factor" by adding a solid psychological feature to your efforts when learning street fighting. Critical situation in the streets are possible at any instant so it's a good idea to start your training for facing the incremental fear aspect. Do you feel like you're the kind of individual who plainly paralyzes when a street fighting situation happens? Having panic is certain with many of us but if you learn to fight and control at the same time then over time you will handle your emotions better over the disadvantage of your competitor.

The center focus when learning to fight is that you must exercise over and over again until you have the experiences and are capable enough to defeat your assailant. Once your body movements become natural to you, by that time you become automatically aware and know what to do when the situation occurs. You feel easier and not as scared so that you can deal with your opponent's moves more clearly. Essentially, once you're sufficiently trained in self defense, you will be able to control and not intensify your emotions in order to take hold of the situation and put your opponent out quickly.

When a person somehow is rude to you, you may experience both panic and confusion as to why the person might act in such a way. They could be doing that for a motive, but slight chances are that you could end up with your face broken for no reasons that you might try to understand. For good practice, you could try to cry.

If you cry while you are practicing, you'll steadily learn to prevent those tears, so that when a street fighting situation actually comes up, you'll be the complete master of your emotional reactions. I will reference a sequence of real-world situations, but no matter how anyone can describe it as, the level of emotional experiences doesn't measure up to the level of real life emotion power in real street fight.

Finally, you can expect that your attacker will have emotions too, so as long as you control your own emotions, then you can deal with theirs better and maybe use it to your advantage.

Wildfire Pepper Spray - Why It's Right For Everyone

By John White

There are literally hundreds upon hundreds of different self defense products these days and almost every single one has its origins in police or military applications. In fact, these self defense products are still being used by these agencies. If it is effective enough for them to use than isn't it worth at least considering for personal use as well? Wildfire pepper spray is one of the most popular options you will find in this market and for good reason.

Pepper spray can be classified as the most popular form of personal protection there is. These products use oleoresin capsicum from cayenne peppers to become an effective form of self defense. Measuring in at around 2 million SHU, this spray is hot! The habanero is only about 300, 000 SHU and you probably thought it was too much to handle right?

One small spray is all it takes, from a canister of pepper spray, to cause choking, coughing, shortness of breath, pain and even temporary blindness.

Wildfire pepper spray is one of a very small portion of the market that contains over 10% of that nasty stuff that causes these side effects. It actually has close to 18% of the stuff, making it a logical choice for anyone. With 2 million Scoville Heat Units, you can't go wrong!

Wildfire pepper spray comes in five different sizes, half ounce, one and a half ounce, four ounce, nine ounce and one pound. These range from key chain size that work well for a purse all the way up to bounty hunter style containers that have a pistol grip attached. This is why you are sure to find one that meets your needs.

Because of how strong it is, Wildfire can be used in the home, vehicle, office or even outdoors. It's wide range of applications make its your first and last choice for self defense needs.

Remember, though, that even though pepper spray is legal nationwide there might be some states that have restrictions on its use. It's always safe to check with your local police station about pepper spray law first.

It is Possible to Absorb High Grade Karate in Three Months.

By Al Case

While MMA is popular, there are problems with it. Let's be honest, while some fellow is using Jujitsu, he is rolling around and vulnerable to an attack from his opponents friends. Not to mention that it is not always the most intelligent thing to roll around on the ground with some fellow who has a knife or broken bottle.

I know I have offended some MMA stylists out there, but these are questions that people should not avoid. After all, the ring looks like the final statement on fighting, but biting is a problem on the street. And getting your fingers broken or your eyes gouged is always a possibility if you are trying to apply a headlock to some fool.

No, it is better to keep a distance, be able to evade, manipulate, and even, in the extreme, run. Yes, you have to watch what kind of a surface you are on, but mobility in warfare is a crucial matter. And talking about the ability to move around, we are talking something like Shotokan, or Shorin Ryu, or Kenpo.

The problem is that people have bought into the idea that ia person needs a life time, even several lifetimes, to learn good Kung Fu, like Shaolin or Mantis. But it doesn't require vast amounts of time. All you have to do is find a system which is built upon the core principles of the martial arts and then concentrate on those principles.

We are not talking about Jeet Kune Do of Bruce Lee here, because we don't want a grab bag of sample all and take what works. What we want are the actual core concepts behind this thing called the classical martial arts. We want the truth of arts such as the Shaolin styles of Hung Gar or Choy Li Fut, or other classical styles.

The best way to do this is to learn how to Matrix your martial art. When you matrix your martial art, be it Wado or Krav Maga, it suddenly makes sense. And, making sense, it will suddenly be ten times easier to learn.

And here's something most people have not really come to grips with, logic leads to prediction to intuition. Those sixth sense abilities of the martial arts are sometimes difficult to grasp, but they don't need to be. Once you start matrixing your martial arts, and I don't care if it is tae kwon do or one of the Korean Kwans, your sixth sense abilities, your ability to understand and generate chi kung, sometimes called gi gong, will start to come to the fore.

Really, what we are talking about here is bringing the martial arts into modern times. We are talking about evolution when we are talking about matrix martial arts. So, you can flog that mule, or you can ride the race horse that is Matrixing.

The Science Of Street Combat

By David Weinberg

It makes no difference if you are a seasoned veteran of the martial arts or a novice beginner, every martial artist must learn to look beyond techniques to uncover the fundamental principles of martial science that lie underneath. A deep understanding of these principles will dramatically boost your martial art skills. More importantly, your survival on the street depends on it.

Fights in the ring and altercations on the street often last a long time. As both fighters maintain their balance this allows them to exchange back and forth with a variety of strikes and wrestling maneuvers. If you focus on disrupting the opponent's balance the moment the confrontation begins he will have a difficult time trying to defeat you while simultaneously struggling to regain his balance. That is arguably one of the most powerful yet overlooked principles of the martial arts.

You must focus on immediately unbalancing your attacker. If your assailant has his balance he can overpower you. If you quickly take his balance he cannot fight you and fight for his balance at the same time. Taking your opponent's balance is a quick and effective martial arts tactic for ending confrontations swiftly.

It is crucial that you adapt your martial art to suit your personality and body type. If your training consists of mimicking someone else's movements who may be bigger or smaller, stronger or weaker, or more athletic, you could be setting yourself up for failure. Trying to fight as though you are big when you are actually a small person is a dangerous way to train. You are most effective when you learn to accentuate your strengths by personalizing your martial art.

It is important not to rely on blocking to defend yourself in street combat. Blocking can work well in the dojo or in martial art tournaments, but when baseball bats are being swung or a 400 pound man is attacking a 160 pound man or a 90 pound women it no longer makes sense. Blocking a knife is a fast way to get cut or killed. It is usually wiser to learn to pass, redirect, and keep the attacker?s energy going to more efficiently counter him without subjecting yourself to harm.

It is crucial that you learn to be a creative and adaptive martial artist. If you only memorize techniques what will happen when someone attacks you in an unfamiliar way with a weapon that you never trained against? You can learn to nurture your mind's creative eye and your ability to instantly adapt to any situation once you learn to spot the underlying principles of martial science. Once you learn to see principles you will be able to create in the midst of combat by inventing your own techniques and counters.

It is critical that you learn to defend yourself from all possible scenarios. The majority of martial artists learn common techniques against strikes and grabs while standing or on the ground. What about learning to defend yourself while sitting in a chair or car, standing in a phone booth, elevator, or stairwell, or defending yourself while both your arms are held or bound? In the street there are no worst-case scenarios just realistic scenarios and you better be prepared.

What You Should Know About Detroit Home Security

By Nicholas Herrington

If you're at a point where you need to secure your property, you've probably already realized that there are a vast number of Detroit Home Security companies to choose from. Of course, with so many things to take into consideration, and so many companies to choose from, choosing a good service can sometimes prove to be a little confusing. After all, you'll need to be thinking about control panels, security cameras, wireless controllers, remote controllers, and even the various types of sensors for your doors and windows.

Although trying to find the right Detroit Home Security Company may seem a daunting task, you don't have to be discouraged. With the right planning, and research, you can find a company that it right for you. The first step is to research what kinds of products are out there and educate yourself.

Once you have familiarized yourself, the next step is to sit down with your family, and discuss what your needs are. Determine how many windows and doors should have sensors on, where video cameras should be placed, and what kind of control system to use. Are you going to need a controller that is easy for your kids to operate? Maybe you need something with a remote so it can be activated or turned off before you enter.

Once you have your list ready, the next step is to find the right Detroit Home Security Services. They are not only going to be coming into your home, at least a few times over the course of installation, but will have access to your personal information. The first thing you want to look for is someone who is licensed, bonded and insured, both state wide as well as federally.

Furthermore, you should ideally opt for a Detroit Home Security service which has plenty of past experience regarding home security systems. In the vast majority of cases, reputable companies will make no attempt to hide their credentials, but instead, they will usually have such information displayed openly on their website. In fact, a reputable company will also try to encourage you to review testimonials from previous customers. If a company refuses to grant you access to such testimonials and references, you'd be better off avoiding them altogether.

You'll also have to work through any estimates you receive, bearing in mind that practically all companies will need to visit your home in order to carry out an evaluation. Obviously if you have your list ready, you'll be making their job a whole lot easier. Furthermore, before you go ahead and invite a company around to your home, you should ideally ask them for a rough estimate over the phone. If you then decide that you want them to visit your home in order to carry out an evaluation, you need to determine that you won't be charged anything for it.

As mentioned before, there are many factors that go along with home security, and that is why you really need to sit down with the service provider and go over your different options, to pick the right one. If you have done your homework, then you can ask about the different systems you have considered, and see what they say. They may have other brands that they use but they should fit in with your requirements.

Let's for example say that you've essentially managed to narrow down your search for an ideal Detroit Home Security company, you've had them around to the property, and you've been given a free estimate. So, what's next? Ideally, you should be seriously considering the service which has given you the best estimate, but before you do so, you need to take into consideration whether you found them to be friendly and helpful. In other words, did they treat you as just another common customer, or did they make you feel as though they really want your business? Remember, cheaper is not always best so don't forget to base your decision on a few other aspects as well.

For a start, you should scale back your salt and starch intake into your body. It is a well-known fact that salt in the body will increase water retention. Therefore , if you use this reduction of salt technique, you may expect to simply lose 5 pounds in one week time.

Many weight loss experts advise that if you are opting for diets to lose pounds fast, you must choose diets that contain less starch, sugars, and animal fat. Experts would also counsel you to select diets to shed pounds fast like whites of the eggs, fruits, and vegetables, soy products as replacement for beef, fish, nondairy products, skinless chicken, and lean meat.

How To Melt Away Belly Fat Using Simple Home Cardio Workouts

By Jalinn M Hardy

Struggling to find time to make it to your neighborhood fitness center? Problem is you still need to trim your midsection. Here's an alternative. Lose that belly fat with home cardio workouts. As you'll see, you really can firm up those sagging stomach muscles and lose the pounds needed to leave you with a body you can be proud of.

First I'm not going to tell you to do away with sit ups or crunches. Yes they don't do much for you in terms of trimming down that pesky stomach flab. But they do help tone the underlying abs so once you do lose the blubber you'll have something to show off. So stick with them.

But the real trick, which many either don't know or ignore, is that you need a total body workout like you get with aerobics to trim any kangaroo pouch stubbornly clinging to your midsection. The fat loss results naturally from the increased metabolism that melts away calories which is something spot reduction can't do.

For instance jumping rope is a great home cardio workout with plenty of calorie burning potential.

However if you prefer to do you calorie burning with exercise equipment there are plenty of options there too.

Heading your list of possibilities would be the treadmill, elliptical machine and stationary bike. In addition to be literally being calorie burning furnaces, you can get your hands on one that's just collecting dust in someone's closet by keeping an eye on Craig's list. So don't let the sticker price of new cause you to shy away. There is plenty of used fitness equipment available at fire sale prices.

Say your knees and such aren't what they used to be. In that case the stationary bike may be best. It gives you a low impact work out but it does take longer to consume the same amount of calories other machines do.

To burn up even more calories your elliptical machine may be your better choice for losing weight.

While some find rowing machines more to their liking. This apparatus will quickly get your heart beat elevated and have you sweating in as little as 10 minutes in some cases.

Remember too that the incline is your friend on your treadmill. It will make you work harder and so burn more calories in the same amount of time. Helping you trim down that much faster.

Here's a Stairmaster tip. Don't grab the handrails and you'll work harder and by doing so burn more calories during your workout as well.

The knock on workout equipment is for some it's rather boring. And it can be. I won't lie. But you can burn off a lot of fat with a 10 minute session of jumping rope. That's the equivalent of running a mile and burns calories even faster. Just be sure you have the right impact absorbing foot wear and try to avoid jumping on concrete if at all possible.

Another way to combat boredom is interval training. Of course that requires more equipment to pull off. But it is another option.

With any cardio routine you need to plan your work (out) and work your plan. Meaning that to get results fastest you want to be doing aerobics for 30-40 minutes a day for 4-5 days in a week. If you can you'll soon notice you've got a bulging waistline with less bulge and more trim.

The Features of a Quality MMA Workout

By Espen Hanson

Most top tier fighters separate their MMA workout into five minute circuits. Each circuit contains a one minute break in between the circuits. This format mimics modern day MMA fights and how they take place. This type of training is the best to simulate what a fighter's body will go through during a fight.

Warming up prior to strenuous physical activity is essential for avoiding injuries. Jogging on a treadmill, biking on a stationary bike, or even using a jump rope can help warm up the muscles before fighting. It is important to stimulate the muscles before a challenging MMA workout.

Good cardio is an essential part to becoming a well-rounded fighter. The top tier mixed martial artists make cardio training a top priority. There are very few MMA fighters at the top of their game with poor cardio or conditioning.

Building physical strength is just as important as building good cardio conditioning. Stronger fighters can impose their will on weaker fighters. They punch harder, they kick harder, they throw harder, and they can muscle their opponents into the position they want. Solid gym work often can give the results that an MMA fighter wants.

Developing good bag work skills is not only vital for strikers, but for all combatants. Bags can be used for throwing and training ground and pound skills as well. But bag work is most often used to develop good striking technique and to work on combinations.

Being able to spar with a training partner will help a fighter simulate combat better than almost any other training. It is important that both fighters understand that they fight at a pace that fosters learning. The point is not to beat each other up and injure each other, but to hone fighting techniques and become better at being a fighter.

The majority of fitness gyms will have everything that a fighter needs for strength training. They will the majority of what most fighters need for cardio. However, you may need to find a good MMA gym to get all of the equipment that is required for full training in mixed martial arts.

Having good dietary habits and nutrition is a cornerstone for most fighters. In all divisions, especially at the lower weight divisions, it is important that a fighter packs as much muscle and power into their frame as their weight restriction will allow. It is very difficult to be a successful fighter and not be in peak physical condition.

Many top tier competitors use coaches for mental preparation. The mental game of fighting is considered by most to be just as important, if not more so, than the physical game. Obviously to be a complete fighter, one must be both physically and mentally tough. The nature of both training for a fight and actually fighting is mentally challenging.

Overall, it is important to put all of these parts into your MMA workouts to be successful. Not every MMA workout has to have each of these parts, but the entire training regimen should include all of these aspects. It doesn't matter if you're interested in just getting in shape or becoming a fighter, this blueprint will help with both.

A Guide To Effective And Efficient Delegation

By Martin Haworth

As a manager, it's useful to understand what delegation is and how valuable it can be for you. In fact, any business is usually run by managers operating at various levels who all need to delegate authority and tasks to their team members, so that they themselves can handle more relevant activities.

The hallmark of a strong leader is that it requires learning to let go and being strong enough to put your faith in others to do things that you do not need to do on your own.

For many managers, delegating work and authority seems to be nothing more than a means of exercising free will in handing down tasks and responsibilities to others, who must then complete the task assigned to them and be accountable for the outcomes.

However, in its truest sense, delegating tasks and authority is not really an exercise of free will; it is meant to be a means whereby a manager can alleviate heavy workload and additional responsibilities that they cannot do on their own. By delegating some work and authority to others, it allows you to free your time and focus on doing more important work.

It always pay to understand that you must be in agreement regarding the standards that you expect, in order to measure how successfully or otherwise the job has been completed. That said, obviously the standards that you require have to be attainable as well as realistic.

Another important aspect to properly delegating work, is understanding the need to grant some authority to the person to whom you are delegating work. This means that the employee to whom you are entrusting the job must take ownership, overcome roadblocks and be as self-sufficient in their work as you feel comfortable with.

To delegate work and tasks successfully also requires that you provide the employee your complete support. To do this requires that you identify the resources that are necessary for the employee to perform and complete the work entrusted to them.

Delegating tasks and responsibilities is something that you will be more effective with as you practice. Once you have learnt the fine art of delegating, you will soon find that you have more time on hand to devote to other and more important tasks.

After delegating activities, you will then need to look at the work done by the employee and use their performance as a yardstick with which to measure their effectiveness. Someone who performs their delegated work well and shoulders responsibility in a desired manner can be developed further, perhaps leading to later promotion, while an employee that fails to produce desired results may be best left at their existing level.

The bottom line is that managers can use delegation as a means to resolve short-term activities, where they themselves need support. In fact, by delegating it is possible to create enough time to personally deal with more important tasks, improving effectiveness, whilst being more efficient in your work, whilst developing your people too.

A good manager who delegates, will be able to manage better and those entrusting new and interesting tasks will be more motivated and committed to their work - and an amazing win-win that works for all.

Airsoft Guns: What Are They?

By Anthony Carter

The word gun makes a lot of people cringe these days. Guns are typically used as weapons in battle or for the sport of hunting and some are just for recreational purposes such as target practicing. There are many real firearms that have become collectable. Airsoft guns are toy guns modeled after the real firearms.

Airsoft guns are for recreational purposes only. They are designed after firearms however they do not shot regular bullets; they expel pellets usually made from a soft metal such as cooper or plastic. The pellets are driven from the gun by either a spring or compressed gas such as carbon dioxide or propane. Traditional firearms expel bullets which are usually made up of lead and some sort of explosive material which creates a fire or explosion propelling the bullet out of the barrel.

These toy guns are fun but they should be treated and used with care. Recreational facilities often require users to be age 18 but there are some that will allow users age 16 and older to use airsoft guns. Airsoft guns are great for teaching proper handling of firearms and for practicing shooting with. It is recommended that protective gear be used when playing with these guns. The plastic pellets will usually not penetrate the skin but there are cases where they can when used at certain distances and when the pellets are soft metal.

Manufactured in the 1970's in Japan, the airsoft guns were originally produced with springs. It was later on in the 1990's when compressed gas was used as the firing mechanism in these guns. The airsoft guns became popular in the United States after the compressed gas firing mechanism was introduced. Anyone selling or using an airsoft gun in the United States was required to have the tip painted blaze orange as a safety precaution.

Many models of airsoft guns are available. Many are actual replicas of the real guns. If you purchase an airsoft gun, make sure the dealer has obtained trademark rights. If a gun is reproduced without the trademark rights it is considered illegal.

As with most guns, airsoft guns also have additional accessories that can be purchased. Imitation clips, magazines, sites and spotlights are just some of the accessories available. They can be modeled after real gun accessories to allow for an exact copy of the real thing. Airsoft guns can range from cheap to very expensive depending on the upgrades for accuracy and velocity.

The firing mechanisms for the airsoft guns can be found on the outside or can be built directly into the gun itself. Outside mounted firing mechanisms resemble paintball guns. Believe it or not some airsoft guns are electric and come with rechargeable batteries as the firing mechanism. Compressed gas firing mechanisms are the most popular airsoft guns in use today.

When you think of airsoft guns, you are basically looking at an upscale model of a BB gun. It shots plastic pellets, is modeled after real firearms and is used for recreational purposes. Airsoft guns are much safer than real firearms and can be a great way to train on how to properly use real firearms. Airsoft guns can add excitement to recreational time for the gun lover but remember to always use your head when messing with a real firearm or an airsoft gun.

An Overview Of Airsoft Guns

By Anthony Carter

Airsoft guns are replica weapons that are usually highly detailed. They are built for recreational purposes. The games they are involved in entail the opposing players attempting to shoot at each other as one would in a paintball match. Airsoft guns fire pellets, not real bullets, which can travel as fast as 260 mps.

The pellets are often launched by some type of compressed gas. A spring powered or electric piston is also common. Airsoft guns can be operated manually or by using an electric motor or by using compressed gas, which is usually Co2.

Airsoft guns are designed for people aged sixteen and over. With proper care they can be perfectly safe, although some safety concerns have arisen because of the airsoft guns. The pellets are almost always non-metallic and usually travel at to low a velocity to actually penetrate the skin. However, although metal pellets are banned on all Airsoft sites, they are still available from specialist stores. Some players even manufacture their own metal pellets.

In addition, a non-metallic pellet could penetrate the skin at short distances, when a gun is upgraded to higher than 150 miles per second. Some sites will specify that these kinds of guns should not be used to play with when they have been upgraded in this way. There was also a concern of these guns being used in place of actual weapons during criminal activities.

During the 1990s there was a brief spate of robberies that involved the criminals using fake or replica guns in place of actual guns. The fakes were a lot easier to buy than real weapons, but could still be used to intimidate victims. To counter this, the American government has made it illegal to buy or sell airsoft guns that do not have an orange tip at the end of the barrel.

The origins of the airsoft gun go as far back as 1970s Japan. At this time it was illegal in Japan to own an actual firearm, so there was a demand for replicas. Some companies began to produce realistic spring loaded guns for public use. At first they fired a multitude of plastic and rubber projectiles. However, eventually they were standardized to either 6 mm or 8 mm. The spring loaded guns were eventually superceded by gas powered guns.

The hobby took America by storm in the 1990s. Classic airsoft, as it would become known, used the early Japanese guns. About ten years later the new generation of airsoft guns arrived. These were designed by Tokyo Marui Co. Ltd. And were termed the automatic electric gun. At this time Japan had just entered into a recession. Hundreds of Japanese manufacturers collapsed and eventually only Tokyo Marui remained as the main producer of airsoft.

Marui then worked to improve the accuracy and range of these guns. It developed an advanced Hop up system, which forms the basis of the modern gun. At the beginning of the 2000s a new company came to challenge Marui's dominance. Classic Army of Hong Kong began to introduce more and more accurate guns to the market. Since then dozens of Chinese brands have flooded the market with more basic entry level guns.

Making Your Halloween Creation Stand Out

By Chris Dotson

--Here are some of the best costume ideas from a veteran haunted house builder--

One of the big problems people have when creating their costume for Halloween, is they try to over do it. How to generate the scariest mood in a person is to get into their mind and really show them how real you can be. "People aren't really scared at our haunted houses by our high-tech lighting and multi-thousand dollar sound systems," says veteran haunted house builder, Stephen Walker, "it's usually some teenage actor in a tattered robe and a little makeup that gets our biggest scares.

" Stephen Walker, the creator of Denver's 25th Hour haunted house continues, "It's about getting inside the imagination of the individual and making it personal that provides the big payoff scares."

Stephen also goes into further detail about the several things that you should be getting at your local costume shop or Halloween Store. He definitely is not a fan of those cheesy plastic or latex masks that you see hanging on the wall, and are usually fairly expensive. The best materials he personally thinks is the most effective when scaring someone is nothing more than a simple wig, some warn clothing and a little makeup.

He also adds that in his opinion you should stay away from the expensive costumes and get one's fingers into a little greasepaint. Steve says the problem with most masks is that they limit one's range of vision and make it impossible to express facial features.

The human features if redone can be the most scary features with just, darking some lines wrinkles and more will have the most convincing and scary creature.

Having flesh and blood living face is much more easy to deliver scares since you are able to give full emotion with facial expressions and looks that a mask cannot. "With just some cotton balls, a little black makeup, fake hair and spirit gum - one can create some really wicked whiskers and harry moles," Stephen laughed. He reluctantly added that some cheap blood would help, but stressed that too much blood can ruin things and turn a good makeup job into a really big mess.

If you think you might be interested in being an actor at the 25th Hour Haunted House, you can fill out an application by stopping by the haunt ast C-470 and University Blvd. (next to the Players Bench). Applications are now being accepted weekdays from 10:00 to 6:00 at that location.

About The 25th Hour and Stephen Walker The 25th Hour haunted house is located in Highlands Ranch Colorado and is produced by Effectech. Effectech has been producing and building haunted houses in Denver for over 17 years. In 2009 the company is building four haunted houses in the Denver Metro Area: The 13th Door, The Curse of Slaughterhouse Gulch, The 25th Hour and The Butcher. CCTV Systems - Symbol of Security and Safety

By Matthew Kerridge

Closed circuit television (CCTV) is a television transmission system, which can be wired or wireless. It sends signals by cable (wired) to a monitor or directly to the monitor by radio waves (wireless). CCTV systems most often refer to security and surveillance camera systems.

The first CCTV system was implemented in the 1940s by a renown German engineer, Walter Bruch. Bruch used this new technology to observe the launching of V-2 rockets, as an aid to detecting and troubleshooting any malfunctions. Then in 1960s, the CCTV systems were introduced in the US in the city streets of Olean, New York, to discourage crime. The use of the video cameras made the city of Olean a pioneer in US of this crime-fighting technology.

In addition to fighting crime, modern CCTV systems can perform a wide range of functions from image enhancements for the visually impaired to broadcasts of pay-per-view sports events. CCTV has many scientific (medical) capacities, including medical imaging, microscopy, and robotics. Other commonly used forms of CCTV are live video presentations used for special events, such as, concerts, sports events, conventions, and interactive teleconferences.

Today in the US, it is common for business establishments prone to security threats to use CCTV systems. Banks, convenience stores, large retail stores, for example, install surveillance cameras to discourage theft. With the large number of ATM's across the nation, banks have gone a step farther and installed surveillance cameras at the ATMs as an additional defense against theft.

The CCTV systems have become a welcome partner to law enforcement. Along with its main purpose of combating crime, CCTV systems have become an invaluable tool in keeping public order. Speed cameras have been installed to monitor traffic violations, congestion, littering, loitering, and other civil violations.

With the rise of violence in schools, incidents of public shootings, and the ongoing threat of future terrorist attacks, the use of CCTV systems by all levels of government is significant. Surveillance cameras are used to heighten security in government buildings, airports, military installations, subway stations, hospitals, schools, and numerous other public facilities for enhanced security and public safety.

CCTV systems can be installed to provide safety features in transportation or recreational facilities. On a subway train, for example, the video cameras allow the operator to verify that the doorways are clear, before closing the doors and starting the train. Another example would be the operator of an amusement park ride. The CCTV system ensures that all riders are safely seated on the ride or safely exited the ride, before the ride is put into motion.

With the significant number of benefits of the CCTV systems, it is not surprising that the use of this technology has increased tremendously in recent years. In all areas of daily living, CCTV systems will continue to play a major role in protecting public safety.

How to Get Your Projects Approved by Focusing on Organizational Plans

By Wendy Mack

Senior level support of an initiative is always a key goal of any group manager or project director, in order to ensure success of a project. Therefore, I am not surprised that in my work over the past decade with change managers, gaining executive support continues to stay at the top of the list of concerns these managers have with their work.

In a desire to help my clients, I talked with executive managers of a number of organizations, both in the public and private sectors to find out what they suggest. I discovered two areas that a team leader can focus on that are often neglected. Using these techniques, the chances of gaining the support of senior management will increase substantially.

Looking For Instant Support

A number of the senior managers I talked to indicated that project directors often believe that if their initial proposal is good enough the executive team will immediately agree and support it. Unfortunately it is more often the case that executive support is created gradually over time.

It can take 3 or 4 years to gain enough executive support to increase congressional funding according to one government agency executive I spoke with. While most corporate initiatives would never take so long, he used the example to emphasize that managers and team leaders must understand the strategic and long-term perspective senior management has on the organization. His suggestions for those seeking executive support are to:

1. give clear and understandable examples of how your project or proposal will become an asset for the entire organization.

2. Work with co-workers in other departments and groups. Try to find ways to incorporate your goals with the goals of other teams in order to make the best use of company resources.

3. Invite senior management to preview your ideas. Ask for their advice as to how you can best fit your ideas into the overall goals of the company. Be flexible and willing to make changes based on their feedback.

4. Wait to present your proposal until after you have built a strong case and obtained initial support for your ideas.

Failing to Show How the Initiative Fits Into the Big Picture

This is a crucial point when it comes to gaining support. Most executive teams have a vision for the future and a number of strategic goals in place to help the organization realize the vision. You are much more likely to gain support when you show how your team's plan will help to further the strategic goals. Doing this successfully means being able to read between the lines and understand what is important without waiting to be told what to do.

What does it mean to be strategic? In my experience, executives want their directors to:

1. Understand the organization's overall priorities.

2. Give constructive suggestions how their group can help the company meet those objectives.

Time spent up front with senior executives is critical to understanding what success means to them, according to Scott Eblin in "The Next Level". However, at this point it is unlikely that they will provide you with specific goals and constraints that you can input into your project. The goal will be to listen for key objectives, as well as company wide restraints, barriers and obstacles. Soak in what the executive tells you. Take the information to your managers to talk over some more. After you have a clear understanding of the organization's position, return to senior management with your specific plans for your group's initiative, as well as goals to achieve them. Always be flexible and willing to make adjustments based on feedback you hear from the executive team.

Executive support for a project you feel strongly about may seem as though it is out of your reach, but if you are patient you will be able to build a case that senior management will understand. The key is to always stay focused on the overall strategic plans of the organization and to let senior management know how your project will help achieve those goals. Before you know it, your project could become a key factor in the success of the entire company!

Home Security with Cell Phone Technology

By Pierre Levingston

Homeowners who purchase home security system do it for different reason, and home invasions along with medical emergencies tend to top the list. Now cellular backup technology has added an additional sense of security to calm both of those fears with its ability to work when and where customers need it most. But many customers don't realize the added benefit that cellular technology brings when it comes to fire protection.

The advent of iPhone and Blackberry applications has revolutionized the way home security works. Applications not only bring more bells and whistles to an already useful product, they're changing the way that alarm systems actually function, and alarm cellular technology has made it all possible.

Fire protection has become even more thorough thanks to cellular technology. Most cases involving a home fire show that the fire either destroys a home's phone lines often before homeowners are able to respond or even wake. Cellular technology makes sure that fires, just like any emergency aren't as dangerous for homeowners who purchase the technology with their alarms.

Cellular backup technology delivers as much as its name promises. Simple to install and easy to use, cellular technology paired with any alarm system provides a safer, more secure home. Instead of relying on a land line, cellular technology communicates with monitoring centers using cellular frequencies. Now cutting or destroying land lines for home invasion purposes are a thing of the past. Homeowners no longer have to worry when their alarms sound.

Whether you're considering purchasing a home security system online, in a store, or directly from a dealer, make sure the system your buying comes with cellular technology. Most homeowners who don't see the technology as a need before they purchase the alarm system usually regret the decision down the road.

The History Of Airsoft Guns

By Anthony Carter

Airsoft guns are highly detailed replica firearms that are manufactured primarily for recreational purposes. Games are organized where players attempt to shoot each other in a similar manner to paintball. They fire small pellets, rather than actual bullets, at speeds of 30 to 260 miles per second.

These pellets are usually propelled by some kind of compressed gas or perhaps a spring based piston. An electric piston may also be used. The guns can be fired manually or by an electric motor or by compressed gas, which is usually propane, green gas or Co2.

Airsoft guns are aimed at people over the age of sixteen. When handled carefully they can be safe, though some have voiced concerns about the use of airsoft guns. As the pellets are usually non-metallic and travel far too slowly, they cannot actually penetrate the flesh. However, though pellets made of metal are banned on every Airsoft site, they can still be bought from specialists. Some people also manufacture metal pellets for their own use.

Results Based Leadership is Effective Leadership

By Bart Icles

What makes an effective leader? Many people might say character, leadership style, and values define an effective leader. However, it is not enough to measure the effectiveness of a leader based on character, style, and values alone. These attributes should not be the only criteria in evaluating the effectiveness of a leader in any organization. Effective leadership takes more than just analytic thinking, personal integrity, and working with ambiguity. An effective leader should also learn how to connect these attributes with leadership results.

Many of us might have learned from college or from a management book the formula for results based leadership involves attributes, results, and effective leadership. This can be better illustrated as effective leadership = attributes x results. It is not merely the inputs of leadership that organizations and leaders must give importance to - leaders must also think about outcomes or results and organizations should start learning how to put stress or emphasis on the outcomes of leadership.

It has always been a challenge for organizations to make its people have a better understanding of results based leadership. And it has always been a challenge for executives, managers, and human resources personnel to help develop leaders (in different levels of the organizations) who are able to focus on both attributes and results. To help organizations have a deeper understanding and appreciation of leadership that is based on results, it is recommended that executives and managers should continually ask for things that are required for attaining results and recurrently tell stories about how to get results.

There are four ways by which we can evaluate whether or not leaders are observing and exhibiting results based leadership. Results must help balance the employees, organization, customers, and investors - and it must not ignore any one. Results must also be able to strongly connect to the strategy of the organization, as well as its competitive position. It should also meet both short-term and long-term goals, and it must not sacrifice long-term plans. Moreover, results must support the whole organization and should go beyond the personal gain of the manager, executive or any other leader.

There are also four areas by which results based leadership can be delivered - for employees, for the organization, for its customers, and for its investors. There are certain metrics for each of these areas, and they should all be taken into consideration if a leader wants to deliver results.

How Much Martial Arts Do You Need?

By Al Case

Here's a question I shouldn't be asking. After all, as a fellow who sells martial arts DVDs, I should be trying to sell you large amounts of everything, right? Because I prefer happy customers, let me answer this question.

You don't need much, when it comes to martial arts. The truth of the matter is that when a fight starts you only need a few workable techniques. And, sad truth of the matter, most of the martial arts being taught these days are pretty much filler.

Karate, such as Shotokan, Uechi or Shito ryu, has dozens of forms, hundreds of techniques, fancy ways of taking apart an attacker, yet, all you need are the five or six that work. You need to isolate the five or six techniques that suit your mind and body, and then work them until they are second nature. There's where the true discipline of the martial arts is, in spending the long lonely hours working just the important stuff until it works...every time.

Shaolin Kung Fu has amazing routines filled with acrobatics, yet, when was the last time you saw somebody do a somersault in a fight, unless he was the one that got hit? Or, maybe you want the mysterious chi building exercises of Tai Chi or Pa Kua or Hsing I, but, again, how many fights have you seen where people use chi gung to win?

Or, take kenpo, which has over five hundred death dealing techniques, virtually none of which work in the ring. Or Tae Kwon Do, with its amazing arsenal of kicks, but which kicks are of little value once the distance has closed. Or jujitsu, which has so many throws, but who can afford to take the time to roll around on a parking lot with more than one attacker to handle?

These arts that I have mentioned, you see have certain flaws within them. And it would appear that I am just bad mouthing the various martial arts. Actually, there is a madness behind what I am saying.

If you are interested in quick self defense, find a course, maybe even just hang a punching bag and get to work. A few months of sweat, and you are there. This is going to be all you need.

And, if you are like me, however, completely addicted to the martial arts, just cannot get enough of that sweet stuff, then I have removed you from my arena, and given myself less distractions in the pursuit of my art. You see,all of those faults I have mentioned, I study all the arts and figure out ways to correct the flaws, and I am an artist of The True Art. You want quickie stuff like you see in the movies, go away, if you want the real thing, then be willing to go all the way.

How Can Cardio Help You!

Being fit and healthy is the in thing. Actually, it really never goes out of style. That body is the most valuable asset you could have in your lifetime. How to Make the Tough and Iron Fists of Old Time Karate!

By Al Case

I know there will be people who will disagree with me, but I was there forty years ago, and I know the truth. The truth is that the karate fighters of forty years ago, students of Shotokan and Wado Ryu and Uechi Ryu, and especially Kyokushinkai, could have taken todays mixed martial arts fighters apart quickly and easily. There are quite a few reasons for this, and I will go over just one of the main ones in this article.

Before I tread into an area most fans do not know exists...let me say that yesterdays culture was full of physical cultists, drug free, and we had our share of martial maniacs. We did things in our training that todays martial artists would not dare to do. All of the things that were done were done with a degree of fanaticism far beyond that shown by todays UFC fighters.

One of the most important things was that we didn't stop our training and do something else just because we might get tired. Cross training was something you did for fun, go hiking with the fellows, or something like that. No, if we were going to have the toughest strikes we would just stay in the dojo and pound the fist against the makiwara, and know that when training got tiring was when the fists got tougher.

Toughening the fists, contrary to todays scared cat take out lots of insurance types, was done with relentless dedication. We would hit soft, but continually, taking the time to massage the fist and flicking it to keep the energy from locking up. Eventually the fist, without becoming injured or insensitive, would become so hard and tough that the famous one strike one kill punch was a reality.

Heck, you see some vague hints of this type of conditioning today. You see people who can break thick stacks of bricks, boards, and what have you. These people have touched upon the true power that fanatic, dedicated training can result in.

The only MMA fighter in recent years who showed any touch of the degree of mental toughness required for true Karate, a fellow name of Luke, was shown pounding gently but doggedly upon boulders with his hammerfist. In the ring, he showed a persistence and determination above his fellow competitors. More important, he showed a fist that overcame any lack of ability and threatened to destroy an opponent easily, if he had just concentrated his training in that direction for any year or so.

Have you heard of Mas Oyama, or other martial artists of his time? They would stand under freezing waterfalls in the dead of winter, commanding their bodies to an enduring toughness quite unknown to todays fighters. In Mas Oyamas case, he disabled or outright killed around fifty bulls, and I haven't heard of any MMA fighters killing any bulls lately.

You think that big, old wrestler type is tough? If you train with the dedication and fanaticism of old time fighters in such arts as Wado, or Isshin, or Uechi, or Shotokan, then you would know that todays grappler is nothing compared to stepping into a ring with a live and snorting old bull. And the only way to deal with those old bulls was to knock the horns off their fat heads, or just kill them dead.
