Beating Brock Lesnar: 5 Who Can

Following Brock Lesnar's UFC 100 victory over Frank Mir, many new fans to the sport are under the mistaken impression that he's unbeatable. In his short tenure as a professional fighter, the former WWE champion has seen a remarkable transformation in public opinion from the suggestion that he's a 'sideshow freak' to the misconception that he's 'unbeatable'. With all due respect to Lesnar, who is progressing by leaps and bounds as a fighter with every bout, hes got a big deficit in experience to make up on the job as UFC heavyweight champion.

Lesnar is no doubt a handful for any opponent, but in many ways Randy Couture was a perfect matchup for him. He had a significant size advantage against an opponent from a wrestling background and without a well developed submission game. Frank Mir made a serious tactical error, thinking that he could absorb a beating on the ground and wait for a submission opportunity. Lesnar had gameplanned Mir perfectly, and implemented a fight plan that allowed him to pound his opponent mercilessly while avoiding the risk of submission. Neither observation is meant to diminish the significance of Lesnars victories, but to underscore the fact that hes not unbeatable. Heres five fighters who could do it:

1) FEDOR EMELIANENKO: While the acrimonious relationship between the Russian fighting god and the UFC brass makes this matchup unlikely, Brock Lesnar made news with his dismissal of Fedor at the press conference welcoming Couture back to the fold. The best news for Lesnar in this matchup is that it probably wont happen. The Last Emperor is as close to unbeatable as anyone in mixed martial arts. Fedor has defeated not only bigger opponents, but freakishly large opponents like K-1 kickboxer Hong-Man Choi and Kamala the Ugandan Giant doppelganger Zuluzhinho (whom he beat in a matter of seconds, essentially with one punch). The WAMMA World Heavyweight champion has striking power, submission mastery, and may be the toughest fighter mentally in the sport. Fedor might get taken down by the new UFC heavyweight champ, but hed reverse it from the bottom and win via armbar.

2) ANTONIO RODRIGO NOGUEIRA: Nogueira would present Lesnar with another formidable challenge. The former Interim heavyweight champion has equal, if not superior, BJJ skills and has proven to be tougher and more durable than Mir. His five career losses are all via decision and came to the absolute highest level of competition (Fedor Emelianenko twice, Frank Mir, Josh Barnett and Dan Henderson). The Mir fight was a lopsided loss, but it was later revealed that he had been recovering from a staph infection that limited his training and clearly impacting his conditioning. His ability to withstand punishment and take a punch allows him to be patient against powerful opponents and wait for an opening for a submission, as evidenced in his fight against Tim Sylvia. The UFC heavyweight division is notoriously thin, but among the current crop Nogueira is by far Lesnars worst matchup.

3) JOSH BARNETT: Barnett is another unlikely opponent for Lesnar, also due to his strained relationship with Dana White and current issues with his positive drug test. Still, with the exception of Fedor, Barnett could be the worst matchup in the sport for the new UFC champ. Lesnar is likely the more powerful of the two, but Barnett is an imposing physical presence himself at 63 250 lbs. Barnett also has a solid wrestling background, with the added dimension of his sizable submission repertoire. As his career has progressed, Barnett has become a more patient and tactically sound fighter and his standup game has improved significantly. Unfortunately for MMA fans, a matchup between Lesnar and Barnett is more likely to happen in an IGF pro wrestling event than in the UFC.

4) ALISTAIR OVEREEM: Overeem is bigger than Lesnar"260 pounds and 65 tall--and Mirko Cro Cop suggests that hes the *only* fighter in the world who could beat Fedor Emelianenko at this point. Hes got great standup including a kickboxing background that could cause Lesnar problems, as well as solid ground fighting ability. Hes yet another heavyweight that is unlikely to bend to Dana Whites contractual demands, and currently has a relationship with DREAM in Japan and Strikeforce in the US. Still, hes a dangerous matchup for any fighter on the planet.

5) RANDY COUTURE: Lesnars win over Couture was far from decisive, and it didnt have anything to do with the age disparity. Couture got caught with a big shot and it cost him the fight. Until that point, he was more than holding his own. He was making his opponent work hard, had the edge in the striking exchanges and had opened up a cut over Lesnars right eye. Itll never be a favorable physical matchup on paper for Couture but at the same time Lesnar in no way proved his categorical superiority over The Natural

An intriguing matchup down the road could be against Croatian striking machine Mirko Cro Cop. Cro Cop has battled injuries over the past year or so but if he could come close to the form he demonstrated in winning the PRIDE Open Weight GP he could be another formidable challenge. At his best, Cro Cop is simply the most devastating striker in the sport.

The Ultimate Street Fighter: Kimbo Slice

Throughout its history, the UFC done a good job balancing serious competitors with 'sideshow acts' designed to pull in viewers. While its debatable that the UFC has the best heavyweight in mixed martial arts, they may soon have the most famous. Dana White announced recently that Kimbo Slice will be a contestant on season 10 of the UFCs MMA reality show The Ultimate Fighter. A good performance there could see him get a shot at fighting for the promotion.

In the past, Dana White has dismissed Slice and suggested that the only way hed ever fight in the UFC is by winning The Ultimate Fighter. Kimbo will get the opportunity to do just that, and combined with the recently announced coaches Rashad Evans and the always entertaining Quinton Rampage Jackson could be the highest rated season in series history. For Kimbo"real name Kevin Ferguson"its yet another strange twist in his bizarre career as a professional fighter. Slice first made his name fighting in non-sanctioned street fights to supplement his income as a bodyguard for a Miami based adult film production company. At some point, Kimbos entourage started bringing video cameras to his fights and the footage found its way onto the Internet.

Kimbo quickly became an online cult hero before he officially turned pro as a fighter. He began to train under MMA legend Bas Rutten and made his debut in an exhibition against former heavyweight boxing champ Ray Mercer. Kimbo won a dominating victory, and his meteoric rise to superstardom was underway. Not long after, he signed with EliteXC and they quickly made Kimbo the centerpiece of their promotion. While building a MMA promotion around a fighter with almost no experience likely led to their downfall, at the time Kimbo became a media sensation and Elite XC parlayed his popularity into a prime time network TV deal with CBS.

Kimbo's career was moving along nicely, until a fateful fight on an Elite XC nationally televised CBS card. Kimbos fourth fight was originally scheduled to be against former UFC mainstay Ken Shamrock, but due to a last minute injury he eventually faced substitute Seth Petruzelli. Petruzelli caught Kimbo with a perfectly placed counter right hook and knocked him out. That was the beginning of the end for Elite XC, and the promotion was out of business in a matter of weeks.

Following the demise of Elite XC Kimbo kept a fairly low profile. He made a few appearances in a promotional capacity for the K-1 kickboxing organization in Japan while considering his next career move. UFC president Dana White would occasionally be asked if hed ever have an interested in Kimbo, which hed dismiss with the offhanded suggestion that the only way hed fight in the UFC was to compete in The Ultimate Fighter reality show.

While its unclear when that off-handed dismissal by White became a viable reality, but regardless of how the deal came together Kimbo will be a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter. Some have speculated that White is something of a sadist, and is looking forward to embarrassing Slice even further. More likely, hes taken note of his incredible popularity and decided to take advantage of it to revitalize a series that has become somewhat predictable and formulaic of late. Its really a no-lose proposition for the UFC"if Kimbo doesnt do well, they were right all along and if he *does* do well they can make some money with him. In any case, the media coverage and ratings for their MMA reality show will likely be at an all time high.

A reliable way of cushioning an object so that it doesnt get harmed in the transportation process is to use bubble wrap. Bubble wrap has been used for this for just over fifty years and is still going strong.

Bubble wrap is basically, a sheet of translucent plastic that has bubbles of air evenly spaced out across its surface to provide the padding for the item wrapped within it.

Two engineers by the names of Alfred Fielding and Marc Chavannes created bubble wrap in 1957. The term bubble wrap is technically a trademark of the Sealed Air Corporation (also created by Fielding and Chavannes) and in theory should only be used for that companys products.

Sometimes more than one layer of bubble wrap is more effective than bigger bubbles, but its not always necessary. If something isnt likely to break completely but has a delicate finish on the surface, then a single layer of bubble wrap will suffice to ensure that the item does not get scratched.

The bubbles can be as small as a quarter of an inch in diameter, and then can usually go up to an inch in diameter but, depending on where you buy it from, you can usually make a customised size request. The reason for this is of course, the bigger the air bubbles, the greater protection the bubble wrap provides.

Bubble wrap comes in different materials because some delicate objects may require wrapping in a specific material to avoid damage, such as sensitive electronic parts that would be damaged by the static of the standard bubble wrap material.

Of course, bubble wrap is also used as a form of amusement as it makes a clearly audible and somewhat satisfying popping sound when the bubbles are squeezed and punctured. Many people use it as a stress relief tool and there are even websites that contain virtual bubble wrap that you can pop by clicking on the bubbles. Some would say pointless, others would say brilliant, and both could well be the case.

Cardio Programs Does Not Work The Same For Everybody

It's a strange thing how cardio doesn't work the same for all men and women. You have maybe tried with it, and, maybe, it didn't gave you the results you were looking for. Here you will find why and what to do to achieve the best results in your cardio trianing program.

Most of people who work in a cardio program do seven, ten or more hours per week, and still have fat in their waist to burn for a long time. But there are other people who look great with the same or with even a smaller lapse of time. Some researchers in Great Britain went insight into this paradox, and studied 35 overweight men and women, who weren't previously exercising.

Subjects exercised 5 times per week for 12 weeks. That's a lot of exercise, but it helped the subjects lose an average of 8.2 pounds, which is great - I was positively surprised by the results. So cardio will work for some people, however, in my experience, it works best in young men, who need the help the least!

Let's go back to the study. There was a huge variance in fat loss between individuals. Check this out...The best subject lost 32.3 pounds in 12 weeks, but the worst subject actually gained 3.74 pounds.

The scientists analized the results and classified the subjects in two groups. They called the first group the "compensators" and the second one the "Non-compensators". In the first group there were people who were hungrier after the cardio training. They were eating more after the exercise, therefore, they were consuming more calories and they weight loss was poor. They consumed an extra 268 calories per day.

Does your appetite increase when you do slow cardio? If it does, research shows it will ruin your cardio efforts. So if your cardio program is not working for you, check your appetite and calorie intake to see if you are "compensating" for your efforts. If you are, you might be better off using a program of high-intensity resistance and interval training (i.e. Turbulence Training) for your weight loss efforts.

The Professor Steve Boucher in Australia has shown in his research that interval training increases hormones called catecholamines. As these hormones increase they can reduce appetite, among other fat-burning benefits.

The most of people will rarely be in the very small group of people who lose 33 pounds after 12 weeks of cardio. To be realist, there isn't a lot of people who can achieve to loss 8 pounds in that lapse of time with aerobic exercise.

The UFC's Purchase Of The WFA Is Good News For MMA Fight Devotees

I lately read that the Ultimate Fighting Championship has purchased the World Fighting Alliance. I think the (Ultimate Fighting Championship) is about to get a most welcomed shot in the arm, courtesy of the recent purchase. Let's continue crossing our fingers that the UFC comes to a decision to keep some of the top tier fighters in the WFA stable.

The World Fighting Alliance is a relatively new operation which has gained some noteriety by signing some big name fighters. These fighters include Ricco Rodriguez, Quintin Jackson and Bas Rutten. What's worth noting about these fighters is that they've all had past success in the UFC or against UFC fighters.

Ricco Rodriguez is a former UFC heavyweight champion. Quintin Rampage Jackson fought and defeated Chuck Liddell in the Pride organization and not by submission as you might imagine. Rampage knocked Chuck (considered by many to be the best light heavyweight fighter in the world) out. Bas Rutten was an astounding fighter in his day and has recently had a comeback fight in which he looked extremely sharp.

The welterweight division of the UFC is in fairly good shape, by that I mean it's deep with talent. There is a great champion in George St Pierre, probably the best welterweight in the world and a long list of good contenders, starting with former welterweight champion, Matt Hughes all the way down to contenders Diego Sanchez, Matt Serra, Josh Koscheck and several others.

The light heavyweight division also isn't in bad shape with superstars, Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz who fight on December 30, 2006 as well as Forrest Griffin, Keith Jardine and Rashad Evans rounding out the top of the division. However, the WFA's Quintin Rampage Jackson would for sure be a welcome addition to the mix.

A Rampage Jackson, Chuck Liddell rematch sometime in 2007 would likely be a huge draw due to the fact that Rampage TKO'd Chuck in their first meeting in the Japanese Pride organization. Even if a Rampage, Liddell rematch isn't in the cards, Rampage's style would make an excellent match up with Tito Ortiz or Forrest Griffin.

The statistics on diabetes are frightening. Every year somewhere around a million Americans are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Although it can be fatal, more often it isn't, but can have a serious impact on the lives of sufferers. Is there any fish oil and diabetes link, or can taking fish oil supplements reduce the impact of diabetes?

Scientists are worried about the rate of diabetes in our society. There are also enormous costs imposed on sufferers as well as the impact on their families and on the health system. So what can be done to reduce the impact of this explosion on diabetes rates?

There are certainly a range of lifestyle factors that can assist in the reduction of the risks and impact of diabetes, like improving diet and exercise levels and losing weight, but as I mainly look at the value of Omega 3 fats I'll concentrate on that.

There is now clear evidence of a link between fish oil and diabetes showing that taking fish oil supplements can reduce some of the risks associated with diabetes. Fish oil has Omega 3 fats in it, and the main Omega 3 fats the are of benefit are DHA and EPA.

So is there any fish oil diabetes link? Is there evidence that taking fish oil lowers any of the risks of diabetes? Yes, scientists are finding that taking omega 3 fats from fish oil do indeed lower some of the risks of diabetes.

So why is there a fish oil and diabetes link? Because there are good polyunsaturated fats in Omega 3 fish oil and studies show that these fats reduce the level of triglycerides in the blood, reduce blood pressure and reduce abnormal heart rhythms, and also improve blood clotting regulation.

A large study on the fish oil diabetes link found that taking one gram of fish oil a day reduced cardiovascular mortality by 30% and the risk of death by heart attack by 45%. Blood pressure is lowered and circulation problems reduced. As the risks of heart problems are way higher for diabetes sufferers this is excellent news indeed.

A number of studies have now confirmed that diabetes and fish oil intake are linked, that more omega 3 in the diet helps reduce the negative effects of type 2 diabetes.

So how to get your fish oil? The AHA recommends 2 fish meals a week, but for some they also recommend limiting the intake of some fish due to the levels of some contaminants in fish, like mercury and PCBs. That's scary.

The best way to get the right levels of Omega 3 fats in your diet is by fish oil capsules. The very best ones use fish from the cleanest ocean in the world, the southern ocean, and also use fish that are the highest in DHA, so their Omega 3 supplements are extremely high in DHA.
