Heart Health Supplements

By Claude Edwin Theriault

Little known fact, heart disease is the number-one killer of both men and women combined, every year it kills more than the other nine causes of death combined. Everyone things they are immune to it until the symptons show themselves in the form of sudden death.

Hence the need to start a cardio health supplement routine now. I my constant research I have discovered L-arginine; a great blood flow enhancer ideal for premature cardiovascular aging, also happens to supports healthy sexual performance,as well as help in achieving less body fat. It is considered a semi-essential amino acid and even though the body makes it, supplementation is highly recommended with advanced age.

A tall order list of ingredients I know but to get on track and stay it is investment in ones health now. Among the foods rich in arginine are chocolate, carob, peanuts, almond, soybeans, coconut, diary products, white flour, oats, walnuts, meat, and wheat. However commercial foods are not all what they once were, which is why we simply need to supplement.

The prime effect of L arginine on the body is to raise thymus gland activity so as to manufactures T-cells to get a stronger immune system. It also helps to create more T-cells to help slow down tumor growth, cancer, and help with diseases such as AIDS. L arginine supplements also can help to relax and dilate blood vessels and increase blood flow to heart and brain; this being beneficial for anyone suffering from heart and blood vessel problems. Body builders and those wishing to loose weight, can do so since it helps to decrease the amount of fat in the body, by helping to metabolize protein done by improving the nitrogen balance in the body and then convert protein into muscle mass more easily. A high arginine dosage can be extremely beneficial for men who have low sperm counts since Arginine increases sperm count. It is a natural treatment for erection problems, due to the fact that arginine helps to increase the blood flow to the genital area by stimulating nitric oxide in the body.

Arm Moves in Wrestling

By Rhys Jones

The arm moves in wrestling include the arm breakers, arm drags, over the shoulder arm drags, arm swings, etc. The arm bar take down is another of the moves in wrestling. The arm bar attacks by forcing the arm of the opponent downward.

The attacked person feels the strain about the shoulder area and the assailant then grips the arms extending them lengthwise. The shoulder is eventually dropped to the mat. This is a pin in most instances unless the wrestler can wriggle his/her way out of the hold.

The arm breaker manoeuvres include the slamming of the arms, typically on an area of the opponent's body where it will cause some pain. Usually, the pin ends with the scissors hold, where the wrestler's legs, crossed over the challenger's body, are used to hold his/her shoulders down to the mat.

The various moves, manoeuvres and holds appear to be dangerous in the ring, but the truth is that these wrestling moves are all show, that is, they are just a theatrical show to get your attention. The actors rehearse their scenes long before they get into the ring and are trained to send 'signals' to finish the bout whenever should they want to.

The wrestling holds and slams seem serious on television, simply because the cameras and other distractions divert the attention of the audience. Wrestling is similar to how magicians work. Magicians rehearse their acts before they go on stage. There is always a gimmick or explanation, yet the magician does his act so smoothly and the audience is so distracted, that the magician makes people believe he/she is the real thing.

The arm drags include using brute force, getting the opponent in a hook move, the assailant flips the challenger to the mats. Most of the moves are devised by one or the other wrestler and so it may become a popular move. Some of the older moves include the Gallatin and the Banana Split

The 'over the shoulder' move should be called the 'body slam' because the opponent throws the challenger over his shoulder, slamming him/her down onto the mat. At one time, this wrestling manoeuvre was probably a 'slammer', but today it is called the shoulder-arm throw manoeuvre.

The 'wringer; is another of the arm moves in wrestling which is often called the 'spin wrist lock hold'. This move is often followed by the Irish Thrash moves, mallet locks or gouges.

Other arm moves include the arm stretches, arm breakers, arm wringer, arm locks, arm bar and arm scissors. While the arm moves are famous in the ring, there are many new moves today that you would never have heard of when wrestling first began in ancient times. The Amityville Horror is one of wrestling's more modern moves. Although, I haven't figured out what this move entails, we are about to look at it together.

From what I can see the Amityville Horror is just a ploy to persuade people to rent or buy the film with the same name. The move is listed in the roll of wrestling moves, but, so far, no information is available about what this move is all about. Moves are basically marques devised by the wrestlers themselves, so I'm assuming that the wrestler felt he had devised one of the most horrific moves in wrestling and so he called it the Amityville Horror.

Why is it that some moves get roaring applause? Well, it can start when a wrestler in the ring brings in something new and it becomes his trademark, popular final move in his bouts.

Training and Developing Leaders and Leadership

By Bart Icles

Different organizations roll out leadership training programs to their employees and a lot of outlines of leadership training and development programs are available for use. However, a question remains: what should leadership training and development programs really include?

As with any activity, it would be helpful to start a leadership training and development program with icebreakers and warm up activities. Icebreakers like The Magic Wand, Marooned, The Interview, Who Did That?, The ADDIE Game (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation), and Finish the Sentence usually help clear the way for learning to come about through making learners feel more comfortable by making them engage in conversations. There are also motivators or activities intended to help stimulate learners to engage in the training proper.

The bulk of the leadership training and development program should focus on the different concepts that surround leadership. These include concepts on leadership such as the different approaches that leaders take to address different situations, the kind of leadership that they assume, culture and climate, people and mission, relationship with others, self assessment, leadership matrix, and others. Human behavior should also be part of the discussion as this is essential in determining how to motivate different types of persons.

Then, you can start focusing on different leadership and management tasks such as leading, directing, communicating, and motivating. Making and implementing visions and engaging in coaching activities are integral parts of leading. When discussing direction, you must take into consideration the importance of asking the right questions. The Johari Window is effective in showing people that communication occurs in two levels: overt and covert. It also discusses how people view the two levels of the communication process (arena, faade, blind spot, and unknown).

A sensitive part in any leadership training and development program is motivating. Discussing motivation often incites more conflict instead of developing understanding. When discussing motivation, it is crucial to understand what people want from their jobs, the importance of positive reinforcement, the effect of mistakes and blame, how to identify performance problems, effective confrontation counseling, and how to go about performance appraisals.

In any leadership training and development program, it is vital to remember that beliefs and values, leadership styles, teamwork, diversity, time management, change, and organizational behavior as elements that should not be left out. Although there is no perfect leadership training and development program, it is always possible for an organization to come up with one that would be most effective in enhancing the skills of their leaders and improving the kind of leadership that they support.

Setting Up an IP-Based Security Camera

By Dan Michaels

Setting up an IP-based security camera is a simple process. The network cameras are simply video cameras that connect to the IP network through an Ethernet cable instead of traditional analog cables. Once it is on the network the camera can be controlled and monitored from any computer that is connected to the internet. Using this type of infrastructure gives the user a lot of flexibility when it comes to set up and scalability.

If you ever wondered why you're children are always bruised when left with the nanny, now you can watch your kids get beaten to a pulp while you're sitting at a cubicle twiddling your thumb. It's the same setup whether you are just watching your home through a single camera set up, a small shop owner with a couple indoor and outdoor cameras, or a giant corporation. The infrastructure and management just gets a little more complicated with more cameras.

To start, determine if you want a wireless or a wired camera. This is actually an obvious choice for some because wireless just sounds so much cooler. Remember that a wireless security camera still might need to be plugged into the wall socket if that is the cameras power source. The wired camera requires an Ethernet cable to run from the camera or the receiver unit if separate to your router or computer depending on your set up.

If you are planning to use the camera for outdoor purposes it might be beneficial to get a wireless but remember the limitations of the range can become an issue with thick walls or metal objects. And it will help simplify things if the transmitter is built-in with the camera, as most models are anyways.

Transmission of video feed is actually pretty bandwidth intensive, even low quality video. Your network needs to be at least 56 mbps for a single camera and possibly more if there will be more cameras on the same network. Most standard DSL or cable services will support a camera or two for the purpose of monitoring a home.

You can talk to your internet provider about your network capabilities although I must note that standard DSL should cut it. When talking to your provider, remember not to let them up-sell you stuff you don't need.

Once you have everything ready setup is pretty standard. If it's a wired camera you just need to keep in mind what your limitations are with the Ethernet cable. For both wired and wireless, figure out where you want to mount it and how it is going to be powered.

Plug the power cable into the wall; plug in the Ethernet cable to your computer; and install the software that came with your camera. It'll walk you through a few steps basically just click yes a bunch of times. Once this is complete, unplug the Ethernet cable if you have a wireless and mount the camera where you want as long as it is within range of your wireless router and has access to a power source.

Does Interval Training Really Work?

By Peter Falson-Harper

I know as well as anyone how mind numbingly confusing it can be when you are trying to find out the best way to lose body fat. There are so many different ways and recommendations that it can make your head spin. So what is the most effective way for you to lose weight and trim up your body?

Scientific testing has shown that during a heavy cardio session the body burns glycogen from the muscles before using your store of body fat. Glycogen is a form of carbohydrate that is designed for quick release when needed. If glycogen isn't used or burnt up then it will be stored in your body as fat for later use.

To put the icing on the cake, when your store of glycogen gets low, the carbohydrates from your food you eat will later get converted into glycogen to fill up the store and won't be converted to body fat when they are left unused for energy.

Really high intensity cardio will boost your bodies ability to burn fat even after your workout is finished. What this means, is that your body will continue to burn body fat for hours after you have left the gym. This effect is not experienced in low intensity cardio or aerobic activity.

As you get fitter with a high level of intensity you will be able to burn far more calories later on as you up the intensity even more. This allows for progressive loss of body fat as you become stronger.

But there is a way to get the best of both high intensity cardio that burns calories fast and low intensity cardio that burns body fat but only slowly. It is called interval training and involves a cycling of your cardio within one routine. For example, start of gently with 10 minutes of brisk walking or gentle rowing followed by a sprint or burst of intensity for say 2 minutes. You can then cycle through this until you can no longer continue.

As you continue to train your body with interval training you will find that your energy levels go through the roof. The body has to preserve itself and so stores more glycogen in the muscles to ensure it has enough to cope with the new demand.

You really should give interval training a go because it can have dramatic effects on all areas of your life, including energy levels, concentration and confidence. And once you start seeing differences in your body shape you will know that you are on the wonderful road to fitness, health and beauty.

Becoming a Better Leader

By Bart Icles

People say that leaders are born, not made. Yes, there are people born with leadership potentials but this not analogous to becoming a good leader.

We have known great leaders over the course of history and we often refer to them as leadership archetypes. However, good leaders do not necessarily conform to a certain leadership template. Leadership comes in various sizes, shapes, and colors.

As leaders try to improve their leadership potential, their picture or other people's picture of what a good leader is sometimes comes in the way and oftentimes becomes a roadblock. We tend to forget that there is no such pattern from which leaders are cut out of. One must understand his role as a leader. Once he has a solid idea of why he is tasked to lead the pack, he must have the will and determination to improve his aptitude for leading.

One can say that leadership is one of the most subjective ideas in the planet. A leader can be viewed in a lot of different ways. A leader might think he is doing well in directing his people and some of his people might think he is indeed doing a good job. Others may think he still needs to work on becoming a good leader. And there are even some who would think he is a total failure. Whatever the case is, certain improvements must be made on leadership to keep a leader from becoming stagnant.

Leadership must be continuously developed. This requires to leaders to never stop learning. Most organizations consider leadership training programs as investments as these help their leaders improve their skills. Improved leadership skills can have a significant impact on the success of the organization. Leadership is always moving forward. Good leaders do not say they cannot do things. Good leaders do not allow themselves to get stuck when they bump into a obstacle.

When thinking of leadership development, you must remember that you cannot send someone to leadership trainings unless that person is willing to be there. In the same manner, you cannot expect someone to immediately become a leader just because you have sent him to a leadership boot camp. Sending someone to a leadership training program to be taught leadership skills can be a waste of time and effort, but sending someone to a leadership training program to develop his innate leadership skills would surely help. Everyone can improve their aptitude and ability to lead, but we cannot teach someone how to become a leader when he does not want to become one.

Sleep Apnea Linked to Sudden Cardiac Death

By Cara Miller

Medical researchers from the Mayo Clinic suggests that sleep apnea increases patients risk of sudden death by heart attack. The research highlights the importance of regular CPAP therapy.

In a study of over 10,000 patients, researchers found that sleep apnea was a serious risk factors for sudden death among patients with heart disease. (It was second only to being over 60 years of age.)

When not treated by CPAP therapy, sleep apnea causes nighttime oxygen levels in the blood to drop. Because the blood has less oxygen, the heart is over-stressed in its attempt to get sufficient oxygen to the brain and other vital body organs.

The research shows that these low oxygen levels results in the blood vessels altering in a way that promotes cardiovascular disease. (Other cardiovascular diseases that apnea is also associated with includes hypertension and stroke " along with the related disease of Alzheimers.)

Essentially, the patients brain and body shut down from suffocation. The lack of oxygen is due to the patients throat restricting airflow during an apnea episode.

To prevent this deadly result, apnea patients are prescribed CPAP (continuous positive air pressure) therapy. According to the National Apnea Association (NAA), CPAP therapy will save your life if you have sleep apnea and it will also address and improve fatigue, mood and even help in weight loss.

Despite the added health benefits and effectiveness of prescribed treatment with CPAP therapy the average compliance for the nation is only 50%. This is because patients on therapy have to establish regular, nightly use of the equipment, which includes a CPAP mask connected to a tiny air compressor.

The NAA recommends three time-proven strategies to increase your chances of successful CPAP therapy:

1. Only buy doctor-recommended CPAP equipment " namely these three manufacturers: ResMed, Fisher & Paykel, and Respironics. These three manufacturers invest millions in R&D each year. Unfortunately, many websites unknowingly offer 'questionable' CPAP equipment manufactured in China that neither your doctor nor the NAA would recommend.

2. Only buy your CPAP equipment from an authorized dealer of one of the above leading manufacturers. According to the National Apnea Association, there are a lot of websites that sell questionable, grey-market CPAP equipment. Often they claim that they are selling new CPAP equipment, the reality is that they simply dont know because they bought it on the grey-market instead of directly from the manufacturer to make a bigger profit off your illness. Buying from anything other than an authorized dealer means you might get refurbished equipment that just looks like new. But it wont have full warranty coverage and it might not even be sanitary. (Many used machines on the grey market come from deceased patients in hospitals and nursing homes.) Your best bet is finding a CPAP vendor certified as a ResMed Preferred Internet Provider and recognized by the National Apnea Association as a Partner in Care.

3. Get the help and support that you deserve to make CPAP easier. The research shows that patients who get CPAP coaching basically double their chances of success: from under 50% to over 90%. An example of a CPAP supplier who provides free coaching is MySleepMask.com, the NAAs 2008 award winner of Online CPAP Supplier of the Year.

On Improving Leadership

By Bart Icles

It is important that organizations should give time in improving the quality of its leadership. Enhancing the quality of leadership in an organization is not only for the personal growth of its leaders but also for the development of the business as a whole. Most organizations these days believe that leadership development drives the business. Enhancing leadership should not only be limited to top level officers but, it must involve all the individuals in the organization who, in one way or another, assume leadership roles.

Developing leadership in organizations involves a lot of factors. These include training strategies, coaching and mentoring, analysis of learning styles, job competencies design, job competencies support, succession planning, personal and business growth, and self development, interpersonal and social influence processes, team dynamics, perception of the organizational climate, social network linkages, and a lot of other elements.

Leadership development usually concentrates on enhancing the leadership aptitude, attitude, and skills of individuals. People often ask if leaders are made or born - leaders are in fact all born but not all of them are born as great leaders or managers or executives. Leaders are born with different potentials to lead well. People have diverse personal characteristics that can facilitate or hold back a person's effectiveness in leading.

Leadership can also developed at a collective level through reinforcing the link between and alignment of efforts of individual leaders and the structures through which they affect organizational processes. This view has recently given rise to the distinction between leader development and leadership development: leader development focuses on the development of the leader while leadership development focuses on the development of leadership as a process.

The most common method in rolling out leadership development programs is through classroom trainings. It is also believed that classroom style trainings and related readings are most effective in helping leaders to learn more about the different factors involved in leading well. However, leaders must remember that they should not stop at knowing what to do. In order for learned behavior to be applied to everyday work and develop into sustained behavioral change, leaders must always remember that they should put into practice the things they have learned in the classroom and in their readings.

Achieving success in leadership development endeavors has often been associated with the learning aptitude and the characteristics of the leader, the kind and quality of the leadership development program, and the kind of support for behavioral change given by a leader's supervisor. There are also personal traits that have been related to successful leadership development. These include the motivation of the leader to learn, a leader's determination to achieve, self-monitoring, and more.

Being Honest: Home School Supplementation pt 1

By Christopher Pyle

Nothing is more emotional to parents than the subject of their children. It's hard to be moderate in discussions when it comes to children and what's the right decision. Obviously, most decisions are extremely personal. Major decisions and issues are filled with complexity and it's difficult, if not impossible, to speak from a calm center. This said, we can agree there are very good schools available to most all US citizens, places wherein children can get a quality education. And it goes without saying there is the opposite and this may be why so many parents have chosen to home school.

While many have chosen to educate their kids, an honest discussion needs to take place within each parent's self. This is a fresh approach, a sincere approach to improving the home school child's life. The message is straight forward, it's purposely honest and lacking in soft, passive tones. Parents who have chosen to educate their own, deserve the respect this tone imparts: matter of fact, simple, non-labeling or blaming, a voice of aid.

Since no one can be all things necessary to a child, employment of resources available is necessary in home schooling. Even the most versatile and dynamic person can learn from and provide excellent opportunities for a home school child if they're willing to acknowledge there can be better teachers for some applications.

A significant drawback to pulling a child out of school is the socialization aspect. Speaking here of socialization in general. Children learn, experientially, that is to say, through experience, by simply being in a structured environment. Our world is filled with rules, structure, it's how we are able to function without stepping on one another, both figuratively and literally.

There are rules of the road, unspoken rules of behavior in a grocery store, rules at the theater, at the movie complex, etc. So, being out and about, in the world is a good thing for kids as they're developing. As a home school parent/educator, one must be hyper-cognizant of getting the home school child into the world, out of the house. Americans have extremely busy lives, this busyness is amplified when the task of educator is added to ones role. School then, is a place kids go and learn life is a series of rules, especially so at school. Home school children can get this experience, school's don't hold exclusivity rights but parent/educators must make concerted efforts make it so.

In addition to this "worldly" type of socialization is the more specific peer-socialization. More and more home school families are getting together with other home-schoolers and allowing the kids to mix. This is better than no peer-socialization; however, it's tough to compete with a school in this regard, simply because school is generally 6 to 7 hours of non-stop peer-socialization. Of course there are drawbacks and "drama" with school relationships that adults can find tiring but it's exactly these interactions that help shape the child's ability to cope with real life situations when they're grown. Above all, this element, socialization, should remain in the forefront of the parent/educator mind. Of the home schooled children we have contact, this is the single weakest element in their development.

Conversely, it appears whatever may lack in the time spent socializing is more than made up for in the core subjects. Spend a few minutes with a home schooled child and one will be surprised with the depth of understanding in core subjects. Spend time with a few different home schooled children and the surprise quickly fades, it becomes expected. This result is why so many parents turn to home schooling.

What's to be taken from this article? There are clear advantages to home schooling: time, flexibility in subject matter, flexibility in the daily schedule. Since the toughest decision has already been made, the one that lead to home school, what can parent/educators do to avoid some of the pitfalls of home schooling? First, be willing to admit one is not the end all to the educational process. Second, get out in the world with your student and allow them to learn the global-socialization lessons: zoos, grocery stores, live theater, movie theaters, construction zones, bakeries. Take advantage of these places and the lessons they have to teach.

In conclusion of part one, there is a place for home school kids to go, wherein they get global-socialization, peer-socialization and new subject matter to learn from. This is at the doorsteps of outdoor education and or adventure camps. These programs focus on all the areas mentioned above as well as a whole host of others. There are two major benefits to residential style camps of this nature: one, the kids are receiving concentrated levels of socialization, community development and two, they're away from home, learning from and hearing the teaching from a different voice. Camps are wonderful for the development of children.

Of course, do your due diligence and pick a camp you feel comfortable. Email or call the camp, gauge their response and decide if this appears to be a place you'd like your child to be. Outdoor education / adventure camps are excellent choices as you know they're going to challenge your student/child in a holistic manner, engaging all types of learning in a supportive, success oriented environment.

Weight Loss Tips - How to Improve Your Cardio Workouts

By Aaron Wilding

I know that we all hate to do it, but doing cardio is something you need to include in your workout routine to effectively lose weight. Just eating right and lifting weights will only do so much. But how many of you have found that cardio can be really boring? Well, read the tips below and make it more exciting!

Make Your Cardio More Efficient

A very simple way to improve your cardio routine is to engage in what is commonly called interval training. Did you know that you can get the same benefits in a shorter period of time by doing interval training than a longer cardio session? Basically all you do is pick how long you're going to run hard, and then have another interval of recovery. So you could go 30 seconds hard, then recover for 90 seconds. There are a lot of variations to these intervals such as 45/45, 60/60, etc., so use this as a way to mix it up as well.

Mix Up What You Do!

Do you always just run on a treadmill? When was the last time you rode a stationary bike? Or even better, when was the last time that you went running outside? You see, if you always do the same type of exercise every time you will get bored over time. Not only that, but your body may have adapted to what you're doing and so it isn't as effective anymore. To make cardio effective you have to mix it up and keep it interesting.

Regular Activities

When was the last time you just went and played some basketball? Engaging in regular sports is another great way to get some cardio. You don't have to always get your cardio in the gym. So this weight loss tip revolves around making use of your body in a way that you can have some playing something like a team sport as well!

The weight loss tip I want you to take from this article is that you have to keep your cardio workouts interesting. In order for cardio to be part of your weight loss solution it has to be something you want to do. So keep it interesting and you'll likely succeed!

The Basics of Leadership, Leadership Traits Defined

By Braden Parks

If you are going to be put into a position of leadership, you may feel that you are not prepared or ready for the position. However, you need to keep in mind that great leaders are made. They are not born. Leadership is a quality that you can learn over time. It is fairly easy to figure out what things can make a leader a good one. However, sticking to these things can be a bit harder.

The first thing to remember is that honesty is part of being a good leader. You should never lie to people who really trust you. Although you can refuse to tell them information that is sensitive, it is never an acceptable action to lie to them. If you are in a leadership position, lying is going to be a disaster for you as a leader.

Are you great at communicating with others? More than any person on the team, the leader is the one that needs to be able to communicate with force and very clearly too. If you want others to follow you, you must get them to understand what you are saying. Ensure that those beneath you know what is going on and make sure they know they can come to you for clarification too.

As a leader you also have to know what you're talking about. You need to know where you're going to be a good leader. Often people who are good at what they're doing end up being a leader in that area. However, this can be a problem if they don't have the other leadership characteristics that are so important. They must know how the job is supposed to be done.

Flexibility is important. While you may not think this is really a leadership quality, unless you are able to keep peace within the team you'll end up with a variety of different problems. There will be conflicts that come up and many may be internal conflicts. You must think about your ability to compromise. Then think about what you can do to make sure your team will work well together.

You must also be willing to take responsibility as a leader. This is not one of the more attractive parts of being a good leader. Many leaders are not good at standing up and being responsible. However, if you really want to be a leader that is effective, you need to be able to stand up, take responsibility, whether things are going right or whether they have gone wrong.

When you are in a leadership position, you should never play favorites. Make sure that you treat everyone with the same respect, attention, and the same responsibility as well. This way you have interaction with the team that is responsible.

It can really be a lot of work to be a leader. It can be a big headache at times for you. In the end though, it can end up being totally worth it. So, take some time to think about it and figure out what being a leader means for you.

Another important thing to do is to take in more fresh fruits and vegetables, especially the green leafy ones. Foods high in fiber and protein are also good to consume.

Access control system Basics

By Alex M. Furlo

Access control system (ACS) can offer top notch security for both private and commercial premises. An ACS is used for preventing unauthorized entries into restricted areas. Access control systems can also play the role of permission granter- a smart one actually. An ACS can be programmed to allow only authorized people to enter. When an unauthorized person seeks permission to enter, you can or cannot grant permission for entry. An ACS can also record check-in and check-out time of company personnel.

Increasing security and enhancing the control over who enters the property is the main feature of this access control systems. Some times this systems are also used as an advanced employee management tool

Taking care of different entry points in several locations and monitor the entry of many different people is the main power of an access control system, this can be used by regular people as well as businesses and properties, here are a few ways access control systems can be put to use.

Control panels - Control panels are used with many access control systems. You interact with numeral keys or buttons here. But modern systems also have touch screens as interactive interfaces. Such arrangements are directly tied up with the locking or releasing system. If you know the right pin codes, all you have to do is enter them and the lock will open after verification of your entries.

Achieve Weight Loss Faster On The Treadmill With HIIT Training

By Torii Tompson

If you want to get the most out of your treadmill and lose weight fast, you should consider HIIT, which stands for High Intensity Interval Training. Many people are doing HIIT because it takes less workout time and they lose weight faster. People stick to HIIT because it is a fun way to workout and routines can be varied from workout to workout.

HIIT really became popular for treadmill owners when a study came out about a decade ago. The study involved test subjects who were put on exercise programs for five months. The subjects were put into two groups. The first group did steady pace cardio for 45 minutes. They started out at 60% of their maximum heart rate and by the time the study was over they were working out to 85% of their maximum heart rate.

The second group did HIIT for 30 minutes. Their workouts consisted of bringing their heart rates up to 70% of their maximum heart rates. Then for ten seconds they would back down on their workout intensity so their heart rates would fall. The group then did a 90 second period of working out that brought their heart rates back up again. Afterwards, they went back down into a lower intense workout so their heart rates would slow down, again. This was repeated throughout their 30 minute workout.

Conclusions of the study found that the participants doing the HIIT, group two, spent less time and energy working out, but they lost three times more body fat than group one. Another important finding was the fat that group two lost was primarily subcutaneous fat, or the fat that lies directly beneath the skin.

What makes HIIT so great for weight loss is your body goes into EPOC, or Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption. In a nutshell, your body requires more oxygen to get back to its resting state which means you continue to burn calories even hours after you have completed a HIIT routine. In fact, a 2002 study showed the resting metabolic rate of participants was still elevated 48 hours later. This is great news for someone who wants to lose weight and get their metabolism boosted.

Treadmill owners love doing HIIT because it works for so many of them. The added bonus is doing HIIT on a treadmill lets people have a fun workout quickly. HIIT routines are intense, but they should last no more than 20 to 30 minutes. Start your workout warming up to your maximum heart rate range, then cycle in and out of lower heart rate zones and then raise your heart rate back up to it maximum rate, again. Repeat this throughout your workout doing as many, or as few, intervals as you like.

Experts recommend that HIIT be done two or three days a week. They don't recommend doing it back to back because it is so intense. To relieve the stress on your body, put a day or two in between your HIIT routines. Don't feel guilty on the days you aren't doing HIIT, relax and know you are still burning calories and losing weight!
