Spotting the Symptoms

Acid reflux symptoms can be mild or very intense, the person experiencing the symptoms and what exactly is causing the symptoms (for example, something that was eaten or drank). Usually painful burning in the chest area that can range from the stomach to the throat is the first acid reflux symptom that is experienced.

The situation can become worse if person showing such symptoms drinks water. It is advised not to drink water. Usually people experiencing burning sensation drinks water in order to cool that burning sensation but this will make situation worse in this case.

Sour stomach is another symptom which you should look for. Sour stomach is the result of heart burn which creates burning sensation.

The good news is that if you can start fighting the heartburn at the very first acid reflux symptom, chances are you can keep it from getting worse, you can relieve it some and in many cases, even make it go away altogether!

Taking a prescription medication can help to eliminate acid reflux symptoms altogether, but many over-the-counter remedies can work to keep you from suffering as well. Tums, Rolaids, Mylanta and Pepto Bismol are all good choices and some are more convenient to carry with you than others. The trick is to take your choice of medication at the very first acid reflux symptom in order to control and help eliminate the pain.

Waiting for a prolonged time will increase the pain and force you to take the medication until a control on the pain has been completely achieved. Sometimes taking Rolaids or Tums before you have a meal would help to eliminate the heartburn. But at the end of it, the ideal way of eliminating this heartburn is by avoiding drinks and food that causes it. But as this is not practical at most times it is advised that you consider trying some of the medication that is easily available over the counter before going in for the prescription medications.
