Tips On Buying New Horse Trailers

By Grace Daniels

The new horse trailers today are loaded with amazing features. Many of them resemble luxury transport for the horses and their owners. Those who attend a lot of shows really need to have a trailer with all the latest amenities. This includes spacious accommodations for the humans and safe, comfortable areas for the equines.

One of the first things to consider is how many horses will typically be transported at any given time. A large show barn will need one of the biggest trailers available. A back yard owner with only one or two animals will manage fine with a standard double trailer.

The basic double size bumper pull trailer is one of the best selling models. It meets the needs of the majority of equestrians. If they already own a truck, this can be used to pull the trailer. They will also have to decide if they want a ramp load or step up model. Most horses are happy to load with either style of trailer. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. It is really up to the owner to decide which they prefer.

Visiting a local dealer is the first step in the buying process. An experienced sales person will be available to show them around and answer any questions. The client can go inside all the trailers and see which one they like the best. Some of the most popular features are good sized escape doors on each side. This makes it much easier to access the interior especially for taller people.

A commercial barn will need a much bigger trailer. They often choose a four or five animal capacity. This allows them to transport horses between shows, sales and other events. Most of the new trailers are constructed from aluminum. Aluminum has many advantages including its strength, light weight and long life. Buyers can be assured they are purchasing something that will give them many years of use.

Safety should always be a priority. The trailer should have the proper brakes fitted. The Aluminum frame is strong, yet lightweight making it easy to tow behind a truck. A goose neck trailer will need a special fitting and a bigger truck. The goose necks are popular as they offer some extra storage space.

One of the most practical of trailer options is the stock vehicle. This is perfect for both farm and fun use. It can be used to haul work horses around the ranch or competition animals to the rodeo. The interior is the most basic and it typically does not have any interior partitions.

People who go away to a lot of shows may want to consider living quarters in their new horse trailers. This gives them a place to stay that is close to the horses at all times. They can be up and ready in no time and most owners like having the peace of mind knowing that they can keep a careful eye on their valuable competition horses.
