Understanding Custom Thermoforming Companies Tips

By Marcie Goodman

Thermoforming is one of the versatile methods of producing packaging materials. The plastic sheet is heated then stretched over a mold. In the process of cooling down, it takes the shape of the mold. This gives control on the shape and thickness of the finished plastic for specific use. Since these packaging materials are used in a variety of products from electronics to foodstuff, it is a vital part of the manufacturing industry. Good custom thermoforming companies will give customers the choices available and guide them to come up with the best packaging for their products.

After agreeing on a design with the customer, the custom mould is made for the given project. This is made to properly fit around the product in order to reduce the chances of it shifting within or getting damaged in the packaging. For the high degree fitting, a process called vacuum thermoforming is mainly used. This method shapes the plastic packaging better and fits perfectly without leaving space for movement and at the same time not damaging the product.

There is thin gauge thermoforming also known as light gauge thermoforming. This uses a very thin and more flexible plastic sheet. It gives the designer more versatility in the commercial thermoform companies. It usually measures 1.5 mm or even less in thickness and has been known to produce very clear and exceptional plastic packaging.

Uses for thermoformed plastics are so many in today's manufacturing. In pharmaceuticals, they are used to package drugs in a safe, clean environment. In electronics like cell phones, flash disks, the product finds use as these items need clear and presentable display in the packaging.

The products are adequately protected during shipping while still appearing presentable on the display shelves in the same packaging material. A good designer should understand the limits of the plastic materials in terms of tensile strength and how to best mold it. In the packaging of medical equipment that requires sterility, specialized thermoform plastic is used. These keep the equipment well till when they are needed for use.

It is prudent to pick a company that understands all these methods of thermoform. They will make your packaging excellent and products safe all through till it reaches the customer. Credibility is very important in the selection process. Check the quality of its previous products and the customer reviews in the packaging industry.

Other than create the mold and produce the packaging material you want, a good company will have other services to offer. Some will have machines to emboss your logo, brand the material as you wish and have the ability to produce in a variety of colors. They should be able to give your packaging products a very clean finish.

The custom thermoforming companies should have a brochure showing all their products. This will give you a clear view of the entire company and choose what other service you may need. From here, a sample product should be issued to your as per design. It is much easier to make corrections on the sample product so as to come up with the final one without mistakes.
