4 Relaxation Techniques to Manage With Anxiety

By Robyn Little

Have anxiety but want to treat it naturally? Try these proven techniques that focus on relieving your anxiety that are completely drug free and experts say they truly do relieve many, if not all, all anxiety symptoms.

Breathing Exercises

Start by closing your eyes and allow yourself to focus on breathing. Take a deep, slow breath through both nostrils. Notice how it fills your lungs. Pointedly exhale, and note how your lungs begin to contract. Continuing this exercise, your entire focus will be on this process as deeply inhaling and exhaling slowly causes your anxiety and stress to evaporate. Perform this exercise between five and ten times to get the best results.

Exercising

Along the same lines of practicing deep breathing is the idea of exercise. The process of exercising does wonders for stress relief. It has been proven that activity of physical exertion and the breathing techniques that naturally come along with it, positive endorphins are released. These contribute to your overall well-being and act as a wonder stress reducer.

Journaling

Your notebook or a word processor make an excellent place to record how you are feeling. Knowing your words are private, your frustrations and worries can all be let out into this special place. Anxiety often comes from feelings we think and we cannot or should not express. You are giving your problems and yourself the voice you need when you allow yourself the chance to vent.

Enjoy a Relaxing Bath

Relaxing the muscles is an important key to reducing stress. Your muscles will begin to relax naturally in the soothing, hot water of your bath. It also provides privacy and serenity for a short while. Do you think a relaxing bath is an activity only for women? Men and women both suffer from anxiety and stress, so this method to reduce it is suitable for both, too. To increase the overall effects of soothing baths, nice music and candles can heighten your senses and reduce more tension in your body and mind.
