A Little Information Behind The History Of Golf

By Jeremy Billings

The Scots hold a remarkable history in terms of discovering golf. If it wasn't for them, the great golfers of late would be nothing but ordinary people. However, the way golf was played in those days differs to a smaller extent than how it is played these days.

They used to hit the stones no sand but this was revised in the 1770's when they came up with the best setting for playing golf. It is believed that it was in Edinburgh where the golfers came up with the idea of developing golf to the next level.

When you look at how the golf balls came into existence, you will get to realize that the players finally got fed up of the stones and this forced them to opt for the better methods. This led to the founding of gutta-percha ball made from that type of tree sap.

As time went on, different balls were discovered and they were all made of leather. That was in 1898 with the discovery of the rubber cored ball and by the time 1905 stroked; William Taylor had founded the dimpled golf ball.

The golf balls are hit with the golf clubs and this is why the clubs were also invented. A bow maker in Scotland made the first move when he was asked to make one club for the King James IV and he didn't hesitate.

The golfers had to use leather from which they used to bind it with wood to come up with the golf clubs. To make matters worse, these clubs were so weak hence they didn't meet the expectations of the real equipment used in playing golf.

Golf is played on a tee and in the olden days, the tee was made of rubber with three pongs. Just because today the tee sticks on the ground it doesn't mean it was the same case in the past.

Nowadays the tee that is being used was invented in 1897 by PM Matthews and it sticks in the ground to give you a good playing area.
