When you submit an application for a job you will usually either submit it online or fill in a paper based form. Sometimes you will still have to fill in an application form even when you have already applied with a covering letter and CV. An application form is a quick and easy way for an employer to get all of the 'need-to-know' information about candidates.

It is important that your job application is completed accurately and with no errors. You will need to do the following In order to submit a successful application form.

Regardless of whether you apply online or in person you should gather all of the information you need before beginning to fill the form in.

There are usually three sections that need filling in on application forms' personal details, education history and employment history. There is also usually a section for any referees you have. Aim to tackle each section separately.

You should make sure you complete all of the requested parts of the form and never leave anything blank.

Always use Blue or Black ink to fill the form in, always avoid making errors at all costs and make sure you have somebody check the application form before you hand it in.

Make sure you list your most recent job first on the employment history. You should include any vocational qualifications as well as school/ university qualifications. Include all of your qualifications.

The referees you provide don't necessarily have to be from a professional capacity, academic or personal character references are also acceptable.

It is worthwhile spending a lot of time filling in your application, your application is the first impression that employers get of you. It can literally mean the difference between achieving an interview or receiving a rejection letter.

Finally, always make sure that you sign the application form.
