How to Retain the Best Employees (And Get Rid of the Rest)

By Brad Chase

Losing a high performing employee isn't easy, and it automatically takes money away from the business.

There are many hidden expenses which you have to suffer in case such an employee leaves like training time and money. Using training to train a newly hired employee isn't going to be easy and is going to be a waste of time.

Turnover is too costly for the business, especially with the state of the economy right now, but what can be done to slow it down or even eliminate it?

Keeping The Best and Brightest

Buy work uniform for your employees- You can make people wear your work uniform and stay with you but they must be given a reason. Your company can become the attractive place for good employees.

Career Paths - A person who starts working for you will need to make sure that they are able to have a future in that place. In order to make such an employee happy you have to sit down with them and tell them where your business is going and how their own skills will be utilized. Also try to see their goals within the company.

Balance - For most employees, the idea of being able to leave work and have time to spend with their friends and families is everything. Convince employees to take their vacation time and let them know they are working for the right company and that they will have flexible work schedules.

Freedom - You might be thinking that standing over an employee while they work to make sure everything is in order is right. It's not. Employees who perform their tasks well, meet deadlines, and always come through should have the freedom to work the way they want to in order to accomplish their goals. Micro-managing isn't always the best solution.

Corporate Clothing - Feeling as if they are an important part of the company is essential for the top performers, and you can provide this feeling by offering the right work uniform. Asking employees about the kind of corporate clothing they need is important and they need to feel like they are part of a team. Order fitting corporate clothing now!

Opportunities- Do you offer your employees training? Do you ever try out new things? Providing opportunities for those who wear your work uniform to grow, develop, and learn is essential if they are going to feel fulfilled and successful.

Release the Rest - There are always some employees who just work for the paycheque and don't want the growth and development or training aspects. Employees like this also waste your time and effort and will leave you unable to concentrate on employees that are actually bright and good. Weeding out problem employees is essential because you need to focus that important time and energy and resources to cultivate a better work environment.

You don't want to lose any important employees any longer? Making some changes will be useful. Now you know how to retain the staff you actually want.
