Bookkeeping involves all the work related to tracking financial transactions and accounting is more focused on production and issuance of reports. The services are similar and may overlap but are considered separate fields. Accountants and bookkeepers are the professionals who work in these positions.

In the field of accounting, a variety of methods and techniques may be employed. Information technology is widely used for these services, as well as bookkeeping duties. Still, the work of accountants only involves a little bookkeeping tasks. The professionals are responsible for much more, including drafting reports based on recorded transactions kept by bookkeepers. They are also in charge of ensuring the the right forms are filed and transmitted to the government.

The job of bookkeeping includes a lot of organizing and recording of various receipts, payments, sales, purchases and more. This can be done using systems that are single or double entry. Either way, keepers are expected to record each and every transaction that is done, and in the right book. Errors in such recordings may lead to greater problems for the business or accountants.

Many organizations have professionals with expertise in both of these areas on their staff. Some hire external professionals. It is crucial that those hired to do this work, whether internal or external, have the skills needed. Accuracy is the main priority in this. Bookkeepers hand the work over to accountants with the books are at trial balance stage. The accountant takes over by preparing balance sheets and income statements using the ledgers and trial balance as guides.

These services are needed for large and small organizations. The main purpose of these processes is to keep track of all expenses and income, which allows for greater chance of making profit. Furthermore, these are needed to gather and present financial information for filing taxes. Some of this work is done using software and some of it can be done manually, it is usually based on the professional and the size of the business.

To have these services completed successfully, there are some general principles to follow. Receipts and other records outlining business expenditures must be saved and recorded. The income and expenditures information should be summarized on a monthly, weekly or daily basis. Said summaries are used to draft financial reports. These guiding principles are the same no matter how the information is logged.

Individuals who offer these services should have certain skills. They must be organized individuals who have experience with keep records. Furthermore, these professionals should have a working knowledge of the tax system. Math is involved in both processes and these individuals must be skilled at it, particularly accountants. Bigger problems can arise when mistakes are made.

Both large and small organizations utilize bookkeeping and accounting services. These tasks are crucial to tracking expenses, making money and presenting financial documents required by the government. Bookkeeping and accounting are similar field but not the same. The work of bookkeepers is what accountants use to do their work. It is essential that businesses hire skilled professionals to carry out this task and ensure the highest accuracy possible.
