Is Learning Self Defence Technique Really Important?

By Mukhzani Mustaffa

Why is it important to learn self defence? Just buy a pepper spray, stun gun or even a gun. Use these instead of having to spend hours of time trying to learn self defence techniques. You will get the same result minus the time 'wasted' trying to learn self defence techniques.

Let's think about it, one day while you are walking back to you car and suddenly someone stopped you and wants to rob you. There's no need to worry, you brought along your pepper spray with you. But your pepper spray is all the way in your bag. So, by the time you are looking for it. Your attacker already snatch your bag and ran away with your hard earn money. Or you might even leave your pepper spray in your car because there is not enough room in your bag.

Someone might say, just forget about your money because it's not worth it. Okay, let me give you another example. What if you are going to use that money to pay for your son's medical bill that is gravely sick with a critical disease. You sure you just want to hand over your money?

What if you just finished your work and on the way back to your car. Someone grabs you from behind. Instead of just robbing you, the attacker wants to rape you too. What if you got bullied, instead of just slightly hitting your head, your bully got carried away and starts punching you in the face. You can't just let him punches you. Dodge it and push him away.

I bet in those situations, you hope that you know some sort of self defence techniques. Your self defence tools are only useful if you had it with you all the time and easily reachable. But the truth is, it can be easily misplaced. Worst case scenario, your attacker might overpower you and use your tools against you.

Being able to protect yourself and your loves ones from any assault is really important. But sometimes people just think it is too complicated and takes a lot of time to learn any type of self defence technique. Well it's true but only if you want to be Jet Li or some sort of kung fu master.

All you need is to spend 10-15 minutes 2-3 times per week, or better yet spend 30-40 minutes once or twice per week and substitute it with you weekly routine cardio exercises. That is all the time you need to build up your confidence and reflex.

At the end of the day, all you want is to be able to defend yourself or loved ones from danger. If you are not comfortable and do not have the time to learn self defence technique, just get any self defence product. But please make a habit of always having it with you all the time and easily reachable. But if you can spend some time learning self defence technique that would be good too. You can have it both ways too, it's all depend on you.
