Things One Would Need For A Bar Mitzvah Ceremony

By Danielle Galloway

There is a lot to ponder over when one is organizing a Bar Mitzvah ceremony. This all important rite of passage takes place when a Jewish male turns thirteen. A Bat Mitzvah is the female version of this. Young boys are called men at this age, and with such a designation they are responsible for more complicated decision making. Portions of the Torah are perused as their proud parents and family look on. When looking to put together such an event, the youngster's parents has to ensure that the boy completes a certain course of study before his big day, check with their rabbi to see what dates are available, secure a venue for the celebration after the event, find a photographer, find a DJ, and local a food caterer or service.

Parents of the child have to ensure that their son has taken the necessary courses of study needed to complete the Bar Mitzvah event. They typically have to take classes as far as a year away from when the event takes place. These classes are about the child's faith, and a schedule has to be worked out with the rabbi who will be conducting the studies.

Leaders of the Jewish faith need to be called, and the guardians of the boy need to ask about dates and times which are available for the event to take place. Just as would be the situation with a wedding, the spiritual part of the Bar Mitzvah has to booked way in advance of the desired date. In fact, this is one of the things that must first be done when one is in the planning stages of the ceremony.

A venue has to be found for the party which follows the ceremony in many cases. It is becoming standard to have some sort of celebration after the Bar Mitzvah ceremony. Some of the places to look into are catering halls, restaurants, and places that rent out space for special events such as community centers. Temples themselves may have space available.

The individual(s) organizing the event should consider the hiring of a professional photographer to capture precious moments at the event. He or she would take pictures both at the religious ceremony and at the party afterwards. These vendors are usually found through asking others and by searching online, though it is best to hire one who comes with positive recommendations.

A disk jockey is hired for the party after the religious ceremony in many cases. It is best to hire a DJ who has experience with working at Bar Mitzvahs, as then he or she would be rather familiar with the beloved Jewish melodies which are played at such occasions.

If the party place does not offer food, it is important to quickly hire a caterer. These vendors are usually found be asking others for their recommendations or by searching online. It is critical to find one that comes highly recommended by someone else.

Much needs to be considered for a Bar Mitzvah ceremony. The parents of the boy making his Bar Mitzvah have to consider the timeline for religious instruction leading up to the event, desired dates to hold the event on, DJs and photographers to hire for the party following the ceremony, and more.
