What To Expect In A Good Baby Monitor

By Mike Thompson

Wonder how it would feel to have extra sensory organs such as your ears and eyes? You do not have to look far. With a good baby monitor, you can easily have extra eyes and ears. Parents and those looking after babies can now check on the baby regularly without having to run back and forth rooms. But one must always remember that monitors are merely there to assist you. They are not to replace actual supervision of the child.

To sum it up and have the concept of baby monitors simplified, they are basically radio receivers. They are contraptions which are used to monitor audio movements and sounds that your baby would make. These portable radio receivers can be used even in different parts of the house, depending on the range of the baby monitor you get.

With the current technology now available, there have been many advances to these devices. Basically, there are 4 kinds of baby monitors that you can kind. These are the audio, video, internet compatible and movement sensitive types of baby monitors. Here are some of the features you should look for as well:

- For audio baby monitors, make sure you get one that has lights. These lights should get brighter the louder the child cries. That way you will be well aware of what is happening to the baby. But make sure that you get a digitally enhanced cordless telecommunications monitor. This is the one that blocks of interferences from other devices like your handhelds. It's a bit more costly. But then again, it will not give you as much stress as the analog ones, which pick up random signals. For analog ones, they work in areas which are not highly populated. So make sure that you take into consideration the area you live in, before choosing to buy one of these monitors

- In the case of the video style, similarly to one found here in the Dropcam HD review you can buy one that will allow you to bring it anywhere with you and also include a big screen to build into the wall. This is great for caregivers who do not sleep in the same room as their children

- For the internet type, you can set this up to your computer and check in with your baby to see what is going on, despite being very far away

- For the movement sensory ones, they basically alert you should your child stop moving after 20 seconds. This is very good for parents who are worried about sudden infant death syndrome

But one should always remember to get a baby monitor wherein rechargeable batteries can be used. Otherwise the baby monitor might just suddenly die on you. Basically that is about it on baby monitors simplified.
