By Helga Stokes

The number of people showing interest in horseback riding NY is increasing every day. This can be a favorite past time for you if you take the necessary steps to learn about the animals and their mannerisms. This will help you to manage the process much better.

When you are starting out, you should begin by familiarizing yourself with the signs that indicate how the beast is feeling. It will give indications frequently even by the simple act of flicking the tail. This requires that you be alert at all times so that you can catch these signs.

They are very unlike human beings and so they will communicate immediately and without subtlety. As a beginner, learning these signs can help you significantly in making progress with the beast. You do not have to become an expert not only know the basics so that you can read the animal more easily. This way you can be able to control it better.

No two beasts are alike but there are some behaviors that can be seen and expected from all of them. You should be able to know them so that you take some care when you are dealing with them. They startle easy so you need to make sure you do not provoke them. They can kick furiously if they feel threatened. You can learn their mannerisms by observing how they behave around more experienced riders.

As a novice rider, some tips are always necessary to ensure you learn fast. You should, for instance, always approach the horse from the side so that it can see you from a distance. Because of the location of their eyes which are at the sides of their heads, they have a limited range of vision. Approaching them from the front or behind where they cannot see or hear you can startle them.

One of the ways you can detect that the animal is agitated is by looking at the ears. When the ears are pinned back, it shows the beast is agitated. You should not approach it when it is in this state. Only someone who has some experience should approach so that he can assess the situation before giving the go ahead.

It might also be kicking, stomping, neighing, stamping and pawing which could all indicate agitation. This requires that you take care when around it on these occasions. Sometimes, however, these are just signs of boredom.

Loud noises and sudden movements can frighten the stallions and you should therefore avoid them. They read your body language so you should remain composed even when it is not. Keeping calm will help it to relax as well.

You should also try to get accustomed to the horse before you attempt riding it. For instance, you can take slow walks with it while holding the reins. You should try to establish a relationship based on trust with it as well.

When you follow the right steps, you should be able to ride in no time. This is because the learning process is not complicated but just requires you to have patience and a willingness to learn. The process of learning horseback riding NY can also be made easy if you have an experienced rider helping you.
