Everything works with electricity. Current inventions now even has human robots which also uses electricity. Without it, life would not be as easier as it is. There are a lot of things that depends on its energy. Even though it is present everywhere, it will not be able to function well without switches to turn it on and off. The best examples of this would be the smt switches.
Washing machines, refrigerator, air conditioner heater and lights all use electricity. Most of them has switch to function. Each one has different ways on how to use it.
It uses 2 or more general leads that can help transmit electricity. It has metal contacts that also serve as connector that helps the electrical energy to respond. Everytime it is turned on, the current flows in a split second.
One of it would be the slide type one. It has a knob that you have to slide up and down. That is how you can open or close the circuits. Another type is one that uses a lever to flip up or down. That is what you call the toggle. By flipping the lever, everything will already function.
The next type would be nothing far from slide switches. It is called a rotary switch. It also has a knob and is most commonly seen in things like lamps. The rocker type has a unique appearance. It functions like a seesaw where you have to press one of its sides down for it to close and the other side for it to open.
The most common one is the pushbutton. Almost all houses uses this kind of switch for turning lights on and off. It simply has an alternating button to push for it to be opened and closed. There is also one that is called a momentary contact where it has a default state and changes whenever it is being pressed and held down.
Pushbutton has two kinds of momentary contacts. Normally closed will be seen if it is not on. While the normally open or the NO will be seen if it is turned on. The default state depends on what sign is seen. Those signs will help you know if it is being used or not.
One of the most commonly used as game console and controller is the joystick. There are also electricity buttons that looks and functions like a joystick. It can be placed in different directions and can function as much as a normal one can. It can also be used as controller for video games, toy cars or robots.
There are a lot of other types that are being manned by big companies. These machines that they have also need heavy loads of energy thus need different kind of switch. Most of them have bigger ones as well depending on the range of energy needed for its operations.
