It doesn't matter if you prefer dogs, cats or any other animal, the point is to make your pet a true member of your family, and to treat him this way.

The first and the most important thing is to make sure your little furry friend is perfectly healthy. Find a good vet to take care about regular vaccination and proper maintenance. Regular checks will be scheduled by your selected vet, and it's up to you to decide when it is needed to take your pet there in the meantime.

Make sure to give your pet appropriate amounts of good quality food. It is always advisable to consult the breeder or the vet about this. Another important thing is that your pet gets fresh water every single day, at least once. Sometimes you will need to improve his diet with different food supplements and vitamins.

Bathing shouldn't be too frequent, but it is sometimes necessary. If you have a dog, it is recommendable to give him a bath once in every three months. Of course, in the summertime, you might have to do this more frequently, but try to keep this at minimum. In any case, use very mild dog shampoo only.

If you have cats, you know how tidy they are. If they aren't show cats, bathing is rarely needed. In case you want to give your dog or your cat a bath, remember to start with one good brushing. This will remove old hairs, dirt and tangles. Shower them with lukewarm water avoiding their eyes and ears, wash them using very mild shampoo and make sure to rinse them very carefully.

Use some soft towel and a blow dryer to dry their hair. Some animals aren't very happy to see a blow dryer, but if you let them to examine this strange object first, it could help. If not, keep them inside, where is warm, until they are completely dry. You don't want them to get cold.

Regular brushing is needed for dogs and cats equally. Some animals have smooth and easy maintainable hair, and it is enough to brush them once a week. Long haired breeds need daily brushing to keep their coats in perfect condition. Good brushing removes dead hairs and dirt, but it also spreads natural oils throughout the coat. It also prevents tangles and keeps the skin clean.

Active animals mostly wear down their nails. If not, these nails might become too long, and you have to trim them. Regular nail trimming is very important. Dogs with dewclaws must have these nails removed, because they can grow and pierce their skin, causing unwanted injuries.

Professional grooming services are quite affordable. The problem is to find one really reliable groomer. Experienced groomers know how to deal with animals and always use the best handling techniques. Find yourself a good groomer and your lovely furry friend will be in good hands.
