Helping Your Child Learn Self Respect And Tolerance For Others With Karate Hartford CT

By Estelle Larsen

Leaning a new sport is always fun for children, but focusing on one that teaches a child to take care of themselves is even better. Karate Hartford CT teaches them to stay in control of their feelings while taking care of themselves. This means evaluating a situation and not fighting beyond the limits necessary. Respect is a very important skill that the students learn in this sport.

Putting young children in this kind of class helps them learn self defense. Self defense is so important in this day and age. Children who feel like they are in control of their environment are less afraid. This class teaches their students to take care of themselves in any situation should anyone approach them that is making them feel that they are in danger.

Children have the ability to learn and grow in this kind of sport. They move up by earning a variety of belts. When they successfully complete one session and can go through the motions, they earn a new colored belt. As they grow and move up in the ranks, their self confidence grows because they understand and can process the new skills they are learning.

There are many curricular activities that can be chosen for young children, but this is one that covers so many levels. The physical activity combined with all the skills and emotional support builds character in these young people and teaches them how to compete with respect and dignity.

This is also a wonderful extra curriculum activity for any child who is looking for a sport that provides interaction and competition. It has everything from the physical activity, to learning respect for their opponent and learning to control their emotions.

Taking direction and understanding instructions are a big step for children. This sport teaches these skills and provides the ability to learn to listen to instruction and take directions without question. Respecting their opponent, their instructor as well as themselves has to be one of the top lessons and it is implemented everyday.

Disciple is a skill that takes some longer to learn than others. Sports of any kind teaches a great sense of discipline, but martial arts seem to be the one sport that expects it. The skills involved in this sport goes beyond the student, but to others that he interacts with on a daily basis. Respecting ones friends, family and even opponent is taught and expected while engaged in this sport.

This is a wonderful sport for kids. It teaches them so much more than just the moves of Karate. They learn respect for human life as well as for themselves. They learn how to listen and to evaluate a situation. They learn how to take directions from their instructor and they learn humility. Above all, they learn that violence is not the answer and if they have to defend themselves, it is limited to stopping someone rather then killing someone. The lessons are so many and help build the character of the child into a strong human being.
