Many parents with teenage kids can attest that looking after a teenager is not a walk in the park. This is because teen years are mostly regarded as the most challenging years of a human beings life. It is one of the most delicate periods of people lives as teens try to navigate the delicate channel between babyhood and adulthood. One of the most challenging decisions that teens have to make is when to begin using drugs or alcohol. It is important to appreciate that some teenagers have undergone some situations that are both stressing and emotional. Emotional pain can be very disturbing and every teen would like to avoid it. One way of temporally forgetting about the pain is through substance use.

Some teens are also very rebellious. They want to test their maturity and prove a point to their parents. They also want to see what their parents can do. In most cases, this happens to teens that have strict and over protective parents. Instead of letting their parents know how they feel about their constant nagging, they find escape in alcohol and drugs.

The fact is that some teen abuse drugs due to lack of knowledge. They do not know how to cope with the challenges that come with being a teen. Training on substance abuse is therefore a necessity in teens.
