Reasons For Ventura County Group Counseling

By George Powell

Group counselling was something that many people would stay away from in the past. Not many liked the idea of sharing their problems with other people. Usually it was talk therapy that people would be drawn to. Folks felt as if they were in a safe environment when they began to talk to a counsellor privately. However, Ventura County group counseling has really grown.

You may be dealing with the loss of a loved one or severe depression. Some people find that they are no longer able to venture outdoors anymore because of panic attacks that have taken over their lives. There are teenagers that have become addicted to drugs, alcohol or they may have eating disorders which is more and more common these days.

Of course, you don't have to feel that you should say something. In a more organized environment that you are playing a lot more for, it can be to your advantage to make the effort and communicate. It is not easy at first, especially for someone who is reserved and introverted. However, you will find that there are long term rewards to look forward to. You are not judged in any way either.

There are people who go to this type of therapy because there has been a death in the family. Many addicts and alcoholics will benefit from this type of therapy when they talk to others who struggling with the same addiction. It is a very good idea for people with social anxiety to take part in the groups. It can be awkward at first, but they will soon find that they are all in the same boat.

Many people complain that the therapist doesn't understand what they are going through because they have not been through their struggles. This is the difference. Of course, you can keep on going to the one on one therapy because it is definitely advantageous. There is much that you can get out of this. They may give you homework to do. Their experience does pay off at the end of the day.

The therapist will encourage quieter members to open up. However, he or she won't force them to talk. Often, over time they will begin to share. They are encouraged by the other members who share their side of the story. Compassion will develop, and this is sometimes the way in which the introverted folks begin to share their stories.

This is effective for the person who has borderline personality disorder. A person like this will have trouble coping on a daily basis because they will react negatively or defensively. They will learn to become more present. An addict will also take advantage of this method. They will learn what to do when they become tempted.

Many people don't have this type of support in the home environment. The individual is often recommended by a friend or a colleague to join up with a group like this. It is not always easy because you have to take that first step. This can especially create some fear for the person with social anxiety or someone who is more introverted. However, once you realize you are all in the same boat, it will go so much easier.
