How To Tackle PTSD Counseling Bothell

By Jose Patterson

Post traumatic stress disorder is more and more common these days, and folks have to come to terms with the emotions and behaviour patterns that take place in their lives. It obviously interferes with their personal relationships, their routine and their work performance. Fortunately, PTSD counseling Bothell can be helpful in a case like this.

This type of counseling is particularly useful for when someone has been severely traumatized. It usually relates to when the individual has suffered abuse in their childhood. They may have been sexually or physically abused. Emotional abuse also plays a part in this. It is also recent abuse and even a once off trauma experience that can play a part in in one's life.

They will be on alert, looking over their shoulder. They may become more anxious and depressed as time goes by. They may become angry, filled with rage and they often take this out on their family and friends. It can become dangerous. Addictions can manifest from this. By bottling this up inside, these emotions and behaviours will only get worse.

This is something that one must learn to deal with. However, it is not easy to manage this on your own, because of the life that you lead. A counsellor is experienced in what she or he does. They will be able to handle this by talking to the individual and by using a variety of other methods and techniques which can be practical as well.

Many individuals come back from war, feeling confused and overwhelmed. They may never deal with these emotions. In the past, this is something that people would suffer through. They would battle to sleep. They would have nightmares. There would be triggers and flashbacks that they had to deal with which can be crippling.

This can be very unsettling for the average person. They will find that they are not able to deal with anyone and begin to withdraw, isolating themselves from friends and family members. It can create rage which lets go of some of the emotions, but this is often a trigger that they are experiencing in their mind.

It is not always easy to talk about how you are feeling. Many people struggle when they have to become vulnerable, especially when talking to a stranger. This is why one needs to connect with the therapist beforehand. It is important to find the right person to talk with before you go ahead with the therapy. There are a lot of different people to choose from, but you need to feel that you can trust the person that you are talking to.

This is the biggest problem with someone who has faced any type of trauma in their lives. They need to build a relationship based on trust. A professional and experienced therapist will know how to connect with the individual so that they feel that they are comfortable in the environment and that they feel safe. However, it is not something that you can rush into.
