Learning The Vanishing Twin Syndrome And What This Is About

By Lisa Sanders

Many pregnant women experience a lot of problems, especially if their condition is sensitive. While miscarriage is often unfortunate, some experience a vanishing twin syndrome. Its a term that is used to describe spontaneous miscarriage. However, its typically reserved for a twin that mostly vanishes within the first trimester. It was around 1945 that such syndrome was first recognized.

Prior to the development of ultrasound, its diagnosis was only done after a delivery. But because of an early ultrasound, detection is now made possible. Follow up operations are also deemed helpful as it could completely reveal a twin disappearance. It has been diagnosed a couple of times since the breakthrough of tools and equipment. Estimates even revealed that it occurs on multifetal pregnancies which can pose a problem to many, particularly the mothers.

In most cases, the cause is completely unknown. Rather than a sudden occurrence, it occurs at an early stage and without proper awareness, it could be hard to notice its existence. Analysis of certain tissues help reveal any abnormalities on a vanishing twin, while the surviving one remains healthy. Although there are many speculations that revolve around the cause, doctors advice is still important.

Depending on the death of the other fetus, the prognosis of the surviving one is good. Should the loss happens within the first trimester, studies have found out no clinical signs on the mother and the remaining child. When a fetus dies after a certain period, a process occurs which makes the placental tissue to be reabsorbed. This could lead to flattening of the deceased one.

Research has revealed that mother over 30 are at greater risk of encountering the syndrome. Signs could begin as early as possible and could include uterine cramp, bleeding and even pelvic pain too. Should suspicious about your state and these signs slowly reveal themselves, consult doctor. Receiving tests and advice makes difference in having proper diagnosis.

No medical care is necessary. Neither a mother and surviving fetus gets any treatment at all. But if the fetal death takes much longer than usually anticipated, the pregnancy could turn out serious and even complicated over time. It is imperative for the pregnancy women to get help before any serious health complications exist and cause more headaches along the way.

Detecting the early signs is important for many great advantages. The sooner you visit a practitioner, the higher is the chance to save both you and your baby. Fortunately, identifying it is possible through an ultrasound which identifies multiple pregnancy. But this is not enough. A follow up procedure might be necessary only if its requested by a doctor. More importantly, following doctors advice is imperative.

The great thing is it transpires on particular period, and the mother usually get normal pregnancy without complication or intervention. But there could be risks involved, especially if fetus dies either on second or third trimester. Should actions are not done, the baby and possibly the mother could have problems which should be solved fast. Therefore, solutions need to be featured.

Fortunately, practitioners take good care of the patients and monitor their condition. They would look closely for any signs of complications before its too late. Remember to take the necessary steps to avoid suffering from any harm and pain that you do not want to endure. Lastly, never ignore any anything.
