Easy To Use Self Defense - TASER C2

By Jim Wilkinson

If you have purchased a TASER C2 then it is very important that you know how to use it properly so you can have the best self defense possible. There are many things about a TASER you should know so you can use it effectively against an attacker. The first step, of course, is to read the directions and Owner's manual that came with the TASER you purchased. Also, most importantly, take the time to review the included Training DVD that comes with every TASER C2.

The TASER C2 model uses a Lithium battery cartridge that should provide enough power for about 50 firings. When you load the battery cartridge in the TASER make sure the magazine cartridge is not inside of the TASER. Load the battery cartridge into the TASER C2 and then reinsert the magazine cartridge. When the battery cartridge is in the TASER and has sufficient power, you will see a green light, which will notify you it, is working.

Loading the magazine, or air cartridge is simple. First and foremost is that you are positive the safety switch cover is in the closed position. Just like a firearm, always point the business end of the TASER C2 in a safe direction. Now you are ready to remove the cartridge cover at the front end of the self defense weapon and insert the magazine. When you hear a "click" you will know it has seated properly. The unit is so well designed that there is no "wrong way" to insert the cartridge. This is an advantage also in case you ever have to "reload" in a stressful situation. One more word of caution here, never try to pry open the magazine cartridge. The cartridge has compressed air and the probes and wire inside.

Do not try to imitate the fancy hand positions we see on TV shows when someone is using a gun when you use the TASER C2. Always hold it just like you would a handgun, vertically. Slide the safety cover back so that the firing button is now exposed and aim at the assailant. Every TASER C2, except one model, comes equipped with a built in laser sighting device. This laser will place a red dot on your assailant when you point it at him. This dot represents the approximate landing position of the top probe. Try to shoot for the chest area. Make sure you are within 15 feet of your attacker. That is the maximim range of the TASER C2 probes.

The optimum shot from the TASER C2 is from seven to ten feet away from the attacker to achieve maximum effect. If you shoot your attacker from about 7 feet away this will result in a probe spread of about 1 foot. Try to aim for the trunk of the body. Always try to have at least a 4-inch spread of the probes. At seven to ten feet away - the spread of the probes will be approximately 16 inches.

Just like with any tool, practice makes perfect. Before you actually need to use your TASER C2, practice with it. Become more familiar with it. There are targets available for the TASER C2 that will help you gain confidence and proficiency. Don't think you can practice on a person. The TASER C2 projects two barbs that can penetrate clothing and skin and that is what provides the wattage and voltage.

There is also a stun capability backup on the TASER C2 called the Drive Stun Back Up. This means that if you just happen to run out of cartridges and you still need to disable an attacker you can approach the person and use the stun gun functionality. The TASER C2 has two stun gun electrodes that will allow you to depress the volts into the attacker's neck or other exposed body part and then make your escape.

After you have fired the TASER C2 and your attacker is on the ground, drop the unit and run. Run as fast as your little feet will take you. A great thing about the manufacturer of the C2, TASER International, is that they will replace your unit if you have had to use it during an attack. Simply send them a copy of the police report.
