MMA is possibly one of the most brutal, but exciting sports around. For those of you who have never seen a Mixed Martial Arts fight, you can expect a mix of wrestling, boxing and martial arts unlike anything you've ever watched before. Here I'm going to take a look at the five pound-for-pound best ever MMA fighters.
#5 Chuck Liddell - If you want to talk about an intimidating presence in the cage, then Chuck Liddell was the man. An absolute monster in his heyday, Liddell is one of MMA's pioneers and helped bring the sport to mainstream America.
#4 Randy Couture - Couture might be a controversial choice here, considering losses against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Brock Lesnar and Chuck Liddell in recent fights. The thing is, though: Couture is 45 years old and I'll bet that in his prime, Couture would have taken all of them. The man is a legend.
#3 Anderson Silva - From a controversial choice to one I think that no lover of the UFC could dispute. Anderson Silva owns the middleweight division and will do for years and years to come. The fact he has the longest winning streak within the UFC organization proves it.
Knockouts against highly rated fighters like Forrest Griffin and Rich Franklin just confirm what most MMA fans are saying : Anderson Silva is one of the very best fighters ever to have graced the sport.
#2 Georges St Pierre - As a welterweight, St Pierre is all about skill. But if you've ever seen him fight, you'll know that this French Canadian has no little power again. His total dominance in his weight class shows that GSP is, pound-for-pound, an all time great.
#1 Fedor Emelianenko - He's won thirty and lost one! With an impressive record of 30 wins and one loss, and that loss coming from an illegal elbow that made a cut so deep the fight had to be stopped, Fedor is really undefeated in the MMA.
He has won twice over Nogueira and has two wins on Mark Coleman, Mirko Cro Cop, Randleman and more. I can call Fedor the best of all time because he has faced the best and beat them, not many MMA fighters can make that claim and be right!
Well, that was my list of the top 5 MMA artists of all time. I expect you won't agree, but I'm sure you'll agree that - with so many good fighters out there - picking five is no easy task.
It took a lot of time and effort to come up with this list and sometimes I read it and feel like adding and subtracting myself! Many, many great fighters are in MMA and that why this sport has made a huge name for itself, as brutal as it is.
