A Brief Look At Home Security Cameras

By Mike Ward

The most obvious reason why it pays to install home security cameras is that the security of our homes is of utmost importance to each and every one of us and this is why people pay a little extra to keep their homes secured against break-ins and burglaries. There are other options available but installing multiple numbers of cameras to keep tabs on various parts of a home is one of the best solutions.

When it comes time to shop for home security cameras you will need to know what to look for because you will find that there are many different types of solutions available that differ from one another in terms of design, size as well as price. In addition, some of these solutions are more discreet than others and a perfectly good example of the discreet camera is an indoor mini security camera that offers you a good solution and at an affordable price.

With the help of a small sized mini security camera for inside a home you can maintain adequate surveillance without the obvious distraction of larger cameras. These cameras come in small casings about 1 inch square and are available with color or B/W pictures. B/ W pictures may be best if your lighting conditions will be low.

Larger sized residential surveillance cameras have all the required features but is obviously better suited for maintaining surveillance on the outside of a home rather than for the indoors. Such cameras also need to be weatherproof and they should also be able to resist damage from the elements.

A larger sized home security camera is sure to have many useful features and one such feature is the infrared illuminators. Armed with an array of these IR illuminators these cameras can see objects or people even in complete darkness. Often referred to as Day/Night cameras they can provide full color images during the day and automatically switch to B/W at night or low light situations and use the illuminators to maintain picture quality.

In most cases, home security cameras work by running cables for power and video from where they are mounted back to a TV, monitor or if recording is desired a digital video recorder. Another option worth looking at are wireless security cameras that you can place where you want them without the need to run video cables back to a monitor or digital recorder.

Wireless security cameras for a home can send images to the monitor or video recorder without running a video cable. However keep in mind that they will still need to have power supplied, it is just the video cable you don't need to run. If you have an outlet nearby you simply plug their included power supply into the outlet and they will transmit the video back to a receiver that you plug into your monitor or DVR. Otherwise you will need to run an extension cable or wire to them from a nearby outlet. Batteries could be used for short periods of maybe a few hours.

If you find that you are not able to afford to buy and install security cameras in your home then you will need to be inventive and innovative in finding alternative ways to secure your home. Why not instead install a dummy security camera or two that is a fake camera that can be placed where it is visible to everyone. In this way you can show that your property is under surveillance and this in turn will help deter criminals from trying to break into your home. This way you get to secure your home and also save your hard earned money.
