Defenses For Emplacing A Home Burglar Camera

By Randi Robbins

With the breakdown of the economy, more and more break-ins are occurring with precious property being stolen. To protect one's possessions it is imperative that some sort of safeguard be installed. There are many different companies that offer various types of home securities. One of the securities that might be considered is a Home Burglar Camera.

Although cameras alone can bring about positive results in deterring thieves, installing other devices with a video camera should be considered to prevent burglaries. While the camera takes pictures, the action of the thief can activate other alarms which can automatically contact the police department. This will often will not only catch the thief in the act with a good picture, but will also provide clear evidence of exactly what has occurred.

In addition to placing one or more in outdoor areas such as around the house or the garage, they can also be placed in any room. They can be hidden in almost anything such as picture frames, lamps, flowers, and any other places desired. Since they come in many sizes this is ideal for these locations. Having it in a room makes a good surveillance device if special observation of a space is desired such as when needing to observe the activities of a nanny.

The most effective locations outside the home are focused on the doors, windows, and garage opening. Occasionally models that show who is at the front door are used. These models reflect an image onto a screen inside the house. This prevents the opportunity for strangers to take advantage of a situation which could have been prevented. False, imitation devices with flashing red lights have been installed by some people to save money. While looking like the real thing it is not of much use should a real burglary occur.

How to find a satisfactory system that will fit one's needs is sometimes difficult. In addition to consulting with someone familiar with the product, a search of the Internet can reveal many models and lines available that will fit any homeowner's needs and budget. Talking to others who have these systems will also reveal the pluses and minuses of a potential product.

One of the important things in using any product that is connected to an electric wire is what happens when there is an electric failure. If everything depends on electricity then the security is lost when the power is down. It is well-known how much stealing and breaking-in occurs during a power failure. The question must be asked, What happens if I am out of town and the power fails? When the power comes back on will the camera and security system come back on automatically? What protection is available if this happens? Is there a back-up system? These questions need to be answered before any system is installed.

The advantage of having camera footage is the ability to provide a fool proof identity of the culprits involved in any break-in. Unfortunately, this only provides proof, after the fact, and does not interrupt the actual robbery. By placing alarm devices on various entries to the home the police are immediately contacted and, even if they miss the thieves, their pictures are available for identification.

The value of a home video camera has proved itself many times over. Keeping a recording of activities in various parts of the home provides proof, if needed, concerning the occurrence of illegal activities. In the long-run, upon resale homes with these devices are a valuable attraction for prospective buyers.
