Criminal Records Check

Police background check goes by different names. Other names are criminal background checks, police record checks and criminal records checks. It is also called reference checks or criminal reference checks. The term "criminal records check" might be misleading, that's why using the term "background check" is more ideal.

It is not only the person's criminal history information that is provided but the person's criminal record. Information about an individual is also contained in a police report. A police report contains information like the mental and psychological health, pending charges, charges that have been cleared and non-conviction cases or allegations of any sort. Your own police record may come to existence if you have associated with the police.

People ask for background checks because they have their own reasons. Police reports are usually the basis of a person's credibility. The background check reflects who you are as a person and this becomes the basis of organizations in searching for the right person for the job or activity. The background check represents your personality which will give them an idea of who you are as a person. Part of the screening protocol is personal interview, this is one way of deeply knowing the capabilities of a person.

A person can go to their local police station to obtain a police background check. A person can go directly to the local station or police headquarters.

On behalf of his would be applicant, the employer may submit the reference check directly because sometimes there's an agreement between employers, the agencies and the police departments. For verification purposes, a person must bring identification documents such as a passport or a driver's license. Be ready to spend some cash when obtaining a check. $15 to $60 is needed, it usually varies from one police station to the next. At times, the employer may cover the payments.
