Tips for using an E cigarette

By Sophie Clews

If you have decided to buy electronic cigarettes, either as an alternative to smoking or because you would like to start the process of quitting smoking, you will need to know the proper way to use them.

Electronic cigarettes are not smoked in the same way as tobacco cigarettes - this is the first thing you need to realise. People who smoke tobacco cigarette inhale in short, quick puffs, but this isn't the proper way to use electronic cigarettes. Once you know this, you can learn the proper inhaling techniques for E cigarettes and get the best from them.

For the best experience with electronic cigarettes, you should be taking longer and slower inhalations. Try to be more controlled when drawing in, making it last for around 3 - 5 seconds. For the best sensation and experience, you should also be holding the vapour in your lungs or in your mouth (whichever you prefer) for a few seconds before breathing it out.

This smoking technique is so effective because it gives you the same experience as smoking a tobacco cigarette, but you need to inhale less. Some people put their electronic cigarettes away for later after they have had 3 to 5 puffs, whilst others inhale up to 7 times.

When you first start using an electronic cigarette, it is normal to burn through more cartridges than you expect. This will change over time, as you perfect your inhalation technique.

Giving yourself time to adjust to the experience when you first start using electronic cigarettes is very important, especially if you're making the jump from smoking tobacco cigarettes. You should take your time over your electronic cigarettes and enjoy them, as they are designed to be used at your leisure rather than smoked all at once like a standard cigarette.
