People run for various reasons such as to lose weight, keep fit or as a professional career. This sporting activity is a good physical exercise as it ensures faster loss of calories. As it is the nature of any athletic activity, injuries have to be present. Therefore the information below provides an understanding of the common runners injuries and how to prevent them.

One of the common wounds experienced during running is plantar fasciitis. This injury usually occurs from too much training or running beyond the normal limits. The result is tearing of the plantar fascia tissue that connects heel bone to toes. Thus people are advised to wear the correct running shoes and avoid over training.

The runners knee is the other injury encountered when running. It is caused by too much stress on the knees without enough resting time. Other contributing factors to this condition can be poor quality shoes, weak hip muscles among other factors. To avoid this problem, individuals should ensure to always warm up before beginning to run, wearing correct sports shoes and ensure to get enough rest after training.

A shin splint is the other issue among runners. It is caused by doing repetitive strenuous exercises that apply a lot of pressure on the lower leg muscles. The problem causes a sharp pain at the shin part of the leg due to swelling of the tibia. To prevent this occurrence people must ensure to do the right exercises, not over training, doing stretching activities before running and training on even surfaces.

Chafing is also a common problem seen in many people who run. This occurs from constant rubbing of clothes against the skin, leading to rashes around the area. It can also happen as a result of running in the rain. Areas where chaffing usually occurs include; the inner thigh area, under the arms and under the bra line for women. Prevention measures for this is ensuring to wear clothing made for sports which have flat seams rather than round seams.

An occurrence of blisters is also quite common among people who run. Such a condition is as a result of rubbing of shoes against skin constantly. When blisters are tampered with say popping out the fluid, this might lead to infections due to open wounds. Thus to avoid this occurrence, individuals must always wear properly fitting shoes and ensure to have socks that go above the shoes.

Heel fissures also known as cracking of the feet is problem among runners which is often ignored. This is usually in people with very dry feet and due to continuous running, their feet starts breaking exposing skin underneath. In severe cases, bleeding can occur and may lead to secondary infections. Therefore people with dry feet are advised to always apply moisturizers at the feet and avoid open shoes.

People need to understand that running is not an easy activity. Getting to know the common runners injuries is essential for anyone wanting to engage in this kind of sport. Understanding such conditions will enable such people take preventive measures first. Also those who have had an experience with any condition will know how to handle it.
