Whether you are a child looking to practise martial arts for the first time or an adult looking to get back into martial arts classes it must be emphasized is that karate Wixom MI classes are not about aggression or violence. It is about learning coordination, self discipline and a number of other benefits. If you are willing to apply yourself you can get the most from karate.

In some recent years some people have criticised karate. They may see it as overly formal or lacking the flexibility of mixed martial arts or the power of other styles. What this ignores is that karate has developed for centuries and that many instructors have also learned other styles and used them to complement more traditional techniques.

Whether the class takes place in a gym or a specially constructed dojo you will be expected to bow as you walk in and show respect.

Classes may also differ on the approach to learning techniques. You may hear commands shouted in Japanese, especially in more advanced classes. This adds to a sense of formality and tradition. Not all teachers agree with this and may simply say commands in English.

With children this can take a bit longer. While it may not always be easy to get them to persist with lessons this is worth doing. If they really want to learn they need to keep going.

The simplest way to find the right class is to arrange for a trial. Most classes will let you have at least one lesson for free to see if you like it. However ideally you ought to attend for at least three or four sessions in order to accurately gauge whether a class is suitable. This is especially important with children!

When you got to your first lesson bring clothing that is loose like a T shirt and loose jogging bottoms as well as bringing a bottle of water and any medication you may need if you suffer from any chronic conditions. If you attend regularly enjoy it then you can buy a traditional suit known as a gi. Be sure to learn how to tie the belt properly as this is seen as a mark of respect.

While learning techniques is important there are the added benefits of improved fitness, coordination and meeting new people.
