Technology has come up with a new kind of keyboard which is no different from the standard keyboard. The only variation is that the latter uses infra-red beams to send typed data to the computer.

According to the Free Online Dictionary, Infrared beams are essentially electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths that are longer than visible light but shorter than radio waves. The computer has a which gets the data transmitted to it by the keyboard. When utilizing the wireless keyboard, it should be placed in such a way that the receiver is within range of the infra-red beam.

Just like with any other equipment, wireless keyboards have both their benefits and drawbacks. The most common advantage would be the reduced clutter and greater amount of space. Needless to say it would reduce the hospital bills where backaches and joint aches are concerned. The assembly is also much easier.

Without all the wiring there is less turmoil and less time is consumed which would otherwise have been used in connecting the various wires. An additional advantage is that with wireless keyboards, more than one user can gain access to the same computer at a time. This also saves on time.

The disadvantage however, is that technically enhanced as it may seem, not many models exist in the market and this may limit your search. This would also mean that additional costs will be accrued as wireless keyboards are expensive. Moreover, there have also been reports of cut down performance of this type of keyboard. The infrared beam may also be interrupted with particularly when the user is a certain distance away from the computer and an object comes in between then the data transfer is interfered with.
