Improve Your Home Safety With Outdoor Perimeter Protection

By Mark Mahaffey

When you think of increasing your home safety and security, you might first think of what happens if a thief actually makes it into your house. But did you know that the outside of your home is actually one of the most important places to deter a criminal?

The trick to having great home security is to find a way to be notified as quickly as possible when a criminal has trespassed onto your property. This is what outdoor perimeter protection is all about. You add several layers of protection to your plan by implementing several of the ideas outlined in this article.

One of the first things to put into place for home safety and security is video cameras. Purchase outdoor cameras so that they can withstand the variances of weather. Put several up and position them so that you have good views of your driveway, your sidewalks and all entry doors to your home.

You may not like the idea of video cameras running all the time. This does cause wear and tear on the cameras, as well as using extra electricity. You can avoid this problem by purchasing motion active cameras for your home safety. This type of camera can be programmed to only begin recording when movement is detected.

Putting up a fence is also important. The taller and stronger the fence, the less likely that a criminal will want to try to make his way onto your property. Put a gate at the drive way and lock it. This is also a good place to install a surveillance camera.

Lighting is also important. Look around your yard. Is it very dark at night? If so, then you are inviting criminals to your home. They prefer to break into dark houses because there is less chance of them being caught. Install security lights to increase your home safety.
