Home Theater Systems Enhance One's Entertainment Options

By Kenny Marcum

As the changes in televisions have begun to provide much larger viewing screens that do not depend on picture tubes, built in sound often does not match the picture. One consumer complaint is the tinny quality of flat panel television speakers. Home theater systems provide box speakers that can improve the quality of sound for all sorts of viewing.

Most of these sets include the 5.1 or 7.1 channel devices, which indicates either five or seven speakers that have been matched sonically as well as a subwoofer. Many of the sets sold today also include wireless rear speakers and an iPod dock. Units that include Blu-ray players often offer the option of accessing online content allowing users to stream movies from several different subscription services.

These devices are available in a wide price range. Five channel DVD units are the least expensive while 7 channel Blu-rays are considerably more expensive. However, the Blu-ray players offer the greatest number of options for viewing content, from streaming services, DVDs and Blu-Ray disks.

The top models offer 1080p pictures with high-def quality. They also work well at up-converting standard DVDs, but picture quality can vary with some players. The sound quality can vary greatly with these different options.

Soundbar units offer another option for consumers. These devices connect directly to the TV without using a receiver. Although they generally produce good sound, they are not as good in producing surround sound. Since there are no actual speakers located at the back of a room, units must attempt to create surround sound using electronics.

Home theater systems can improve the sound quality of one's flat panel TV. The can create an experience close to one from a movie house in the consumer's own house. With the right unit, it is possible to enjoy movies, sports and even music more.
